Didn't get the follow the game, but I'm not sure how that score supports the previous comment, unless their defense is absolutely atrocious.

It's the Big12... yes their defense is atrocious, defense doesn't exist in that league, and even though WVU is new, looks like they have followed suit.

It doesn't seem Philip Ely didn't get much playing time in the Bama spring game.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1611727-west-virginia-football-2013-spring-game-qb-battle-will-come-down-to-the-wire

[...]neither Millard nor Childress was able to solidify himself as the top horse in the race during the spring game.

Having said that, both Millard and Childress did show that they have what it takes to be successful under center.

Childress tossed an impressive 65-yard strike to Jordan Thompson, while Millard threw three touchdowns from 10, 24 and 46 yards out.

They both showed signs of decisiveness and the ability to make checks at the line before plays, as Millard went 16-of-27 for 185 yards and Childress tallied 169 yards, completing 14 of his 21 pass attempts.

However, both had their share of ugly throws, as they each missed open receivers, and Childress notched the game's only interception.

Through it all, neither was able to gain any real separation in the competition for the starting job.[...]

I like our chances. I'd say USF has a edge over the mountain team.

1) we need him and want him. In the mountains, he'd be muscling in as an outsider.

2) our head coach has charisma and they know each other from before.

3) Tampa vs. the mountains...

4) 100% chance of starting for 2 years at USF. In the mountains, he'd have to compete. Didn't want to do it at FSU...

Looking forward to 2014?

JVwvu, there's nothing to stop media outlets from talking to a recruit on an official visit. NCAA by-laws say a school cannot do anything to publicly promote an athlete coming on an official visit, nor can they facilitate an interview with a media outlet during an official visit. As a general rule, I don't like interrupting a visit, but everybody does things differently.

Yes, Greg - as most of our media does, though a few (of ours) wait till minimum they get to airport as they have been warned they will be even more limited if not.

[if they were playing tomorrow], the outlook would be bleak for the starting quarterback, whether it be Paul Millard (the current favorite), Ford Childress or the man at the game considering joining the competition, ex-Florida State QB Clint Trickett. (So you know, the media was discouraged from interviewing Trickett by WVU, which sent out NCAA Rule 13.10.5 to those attending. The rule says, "a member institution shall not publicize (or arrange for publicity of) a prospective student-athlete's visit to the institution's campus." Word, though, was the visit was going very well. Trickett is returning today to Tallahassee, Fla.)

This is the biggest football recruit for USF in a long time. This guy was #1 QB for the 'Noles going into their spring game.

We need him very badly. In my opinion, this is the biggest USF football recruit since B.J. Daniels.

...why did I have to research? Now, I'll be on pins and needles for the next several weeks. Dang!

I think  just about everyone was aware before the spring that Trickett would most likely not win the starting job.  He went is as the starter because he was the veteran.

He's a huge recruit because of USF's need, not because he's ultra talented.

Wow, I'm really surprised that given he was 95% sure from a very, very, very reliable source to commit on Friday, that we haven't heard anything yet.I guess all the reports that he was gonna be patient and take the visits he wants are more accurate than unsourced WVU scuttlebutt. Glad to hear that he is engaged in this thoughtful process. Have to believe that that weighs in our favor. I guess maybe playing for a really high energy, motivated young coach with outstanding credentials might appeal more than working with a guy who dances with strippers on craps tables at the casino. This isn't CT's first rodeo.
