Pretty sure the ACC just hitched their wagon to the Big12 in writing. Think they did that for fun? If/when the ACC is poached, the conference still remains relevant.

Our current situation isn't good, we all know this. I just don't see the current situation lasting long. Do you really think we are stuck here? You can choose to see your glass half empty, I'll choose to refrain from judgement until the movements are complete.

How much you want to bet that contract will be voided if the schools that the B12 wanted to play as part of that contract, FSU and Clemson end up in their conference? It's been proven that most all contracts pertaining to college football stand up in court, right?

Everyone read this and calm down.

An outsiders (sober) assessment of the Big East.

Some points:

It will be a good league and could be a great league and if NBC has it to promote, it will draw attention and command respect.

Lots of work to be done here and that is the reason the money is so low. The key here for NBC and the Big East would be to work hard on non-conference games.

it could work and while it would not come close to matching the main show, it would give the Big East a sense of direction, purpose and perhaps comfort

That is the only thing you can take from the NBC deal. Even then, we're on an off channel. With no promotion. Making $2 mil a year.

I like Ajerseyguy's blog, but he's long been a BE honk.

It's the same BS the Mountain West bought when they left ESPN in 2007. Look where it got them.

Stay on ESPN. It's the only way to stay relevant.

No one is saying it's NOT a bad situation. But there seem to be two kinds of people on this board.

1. The people who think everything sucks and it'll always suck and woe is the program

2. The people who acknowledge it sucks but are ready to put what's done behind us and start getting to work building again.

Sometimes life sucks. You can roll up your sleeves and move forward, or you can lament.

Too much lamenting on this board. We are the USF Bulls and we won't be defined by the past. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves.

Chicken Little's everywhere; conference realignment has more to come and is not yet finished. The truth is that none of you have a f*cking clue what's going to happen, myself included. I hope none of you run or are in a power position of anything important, these knee jerk responses are ridiculous.

Well, for one, none of us has any influence on this at all. Not even a little. It's happening to our school, so we do have a vested interest, but we're spectators. Second, all we can do is comment and fuss about what we're seeing. Unless you're privy to information we the Chicken Littles are not, what are you so excited and hopeful for?

Seems to me that the best case scenario involves the ACC needing to reload with us, but as others have said, then that would mean the ACC is as devalued as the BE was/is, and we'd still be on the outside looking in. Conference realignment isn't done, but that's only because the Power 4/5 haven't finished consolidating their power yet. In what reasonable reality do you see us being included in that consolidation of power? Which Power conference would want USF if you're really honest about it?

I admit, I'm pessimistic. I'm damned pessimistic. I don't want to be. I'd LOVE to be jumping up and down and celebrating an invite to the B12 or anywhere else. But, I just don't see any possibility of that based on what's happened, why it appears to be happening, and on what we can try to predict will happen based on statements from the likes of the B1G, etc. about wanting to cut OOC games.

It's bad news and more bad news, just about every day. Talking about it makes us Chicken Little's, I guess. To me, seeing what's happening and thinking we're going to come out smelling like roses is kind of, well, delusional. That's magical thinking right there.

How do you know what the ACC would be thought of if reloaded? How does anyone know where we will end up? You have no clue, none of us do. Relax and take a xanax, there are some really good teams currently on the "outside looking in" and some crap teams on the inside looking out. Things will work themselves out one way or another. A 4/5 Conference 64 team league will include us, regardless of which one we'd end up in.

Yes, you are pessamistic. Which is fine in itself, but these past couple hysteria-laced posts with you and Balto are a bit much.

When this is all said and done (and I mean really done), if we are STILL on the outside looking in I will join you in being upset but with daily rumblings of the B1G, SEC, and Big12 expanding...it's crazy to be posting crap about closing up shop and crying about our current situation.

Balto, it's nice that you WANT ANSWERS TO ALL YOUR QUESTIONS

Nobody has them right now since our situation is so fluid. If/When the next wave strikes I seriously doubt we will still be in the "New Big East". Nobody is crying over at the Boise board. (except about their blue uni's/field)

Other than strapping your goggles too tightly, what in the world makes you think this?

We are NOT one of the top 64 schools in the country in any of the important categories

- football

- basketball

- academics

- ticket sales

- licensed merchandise sales

- TV viewers

- advertising dollars

- etc

The only important top-64 category we have is our TV Market, where we are #3 - in our own hometown - behind the Gators and the Noles. Maybe even #4 behind Miami. That, and our potential to be the New Miami, got us into the second-tier BE a decade ago, but it sure as hell ain't getting us into one of the top-tier big 4 conferences.

Take off the goggles, embrace the suck, and make the best of it.

charsibb: Then why do we pull in top50 classes in football? Why are we pulling in a top 20 basketball class? Why do we win bowl games? Why have we been ranked at some point nearly every year since 06 in football? If your theory is that we aren't even a top 64 school, we should be right there with Southern Miss or Buffalo right? Before the last 2 years in football I think we were headed in the right direction, ending with the bowl win vs Clemson in 2010. Didn't we just go to the NCAA Tourney last year in basketball? You people take a couple bad years of sports and make us out to be D2 material.Tell me who are the more deserving schools when you get into the late 50's/60's range? Temple? ECU? UCF? I don't have goggles on, I just refuse to give USF the death sentence as long as the conference situation is still changing. When all the shuffling is done and we are still on the outside for some reason, I'll embrace whatever suck comes with it.

"ranked at some point" = meaningless. It was early season rankings based on one big OOC victory, and a couple of cupcakes.

What happened when we got into BE play, and how did we END the season?

Boise did a helluva lot better than we did in ending their seasons recently, and where are they? On the outside.

I WISH we would be included in the final 64, but realistically, I cannot make a logical argument for it. If Doug and Judy make it happen, I will be eternally grateful. But VERY surprised.

If all you took from my arguement was "ranked at some point", which is better than never ranked at all by the way, then I don't know what to tell you. Do you REALLY think that Boise won't be considered in the top 64? If so, then this conversation is over because you're insane.

Yes, Boise will NOT be in the Top 64.

Look at the OTHER list of desirable characteristics. BSU has NONE of them but football. We have none but potential.

So, I guess we can stop this conversation. You are sane, but incorrect. I am insane, but correct! :D

Gotta consider the exposure and promotion we'll get from NBC, versus being Mickey Mouse's whipping boy
