"given that our first year(s) in CUSA-II, having previously recruited (alleged) Big East level talent, USF should be successful. However, once that supply is exhausted and we're back to recruiting CUSA-II talent players, our success is more in doubt (based on the program being what it is and has been)."  ... or words to that effect.

 

Yay or Nay? 

Nay. Charsibb was a little confused, thinking we'd still be in a BE type conference but not being able to pull in BE type talent.

I disagree with that statement ....are you saying Gonzaga, Butler, VCU and other programs are not getting high quality players even though they are in much lower conferences

Not saying that at all ... and not saying we won't get high quality players when we drop down, but do you think the overall recruiting will be the same in CUSA II as it would have been if the BE was still intact? That's all I'm saying ....

 

Thing, also, is we really didn't have that long of a period recruiting as a member of THE Big East, with the new bells and whistles, so we shouldn't see that big of a drop off. We should, hopefully. do fine in CUSA II in that regard once the gears are shifted.

However, when your cornerstone program - in both cases above - is basketball, you're gonna get those recruits (the only game in town).

Butler, however, being in basketball rich Indiana, also enjoys that level of recruit.

 

South Florida - never has been, and I'm willing to bet never will be a dominant basketball program because of multiple reasons  and now

that  football has the spotlight, a losing - or average - U of SF basketball team will not land the recruits that a 'Hoops Heavy' school would. 

 

We are on the fast track to mediocrity...not that there's anything wrong with that.

One would have said the same about Miami. And look what they've done in the past weeks...
