I'm sorry I'm not wearing the G&G goggles on this hire.

Some people seem to think NFL automatically means results in college whether recruiting or on the field. Remember Bill Callahan or Mike Sherman? It really all comes down to results. Hes statistically had some of the worsts defenses in the NFL consecutively and that team he coached to the SB was known for its explosive offense under Gannon and Rice and got pounded by the Bucs.

Connections can get you anywhere in life.

Umm his defense wasn't that bad at oakland top 10 for a few years.
One has to really wonder how that game would've been if the Raiders were smart enough to change their play calls/signals - but I'm sure at the beginning of the year they didn't think they'd make it to the super bowl and if they did that they'd face the bucs.

21 points were scored by our defense. On the DVD it shows Lynch telling Jackson where they were most likely going to throw the ball.

I have the Bucs Super Bowl DVD too ... Lynch didn't just do that ... he actually called out the exact play that the Raiders were lined up in - they had run it in practice the week before, and Gruden actually ran the scout team as QB and mimicked Rich Gannon to a T.

The Raiders were the best opponent the Bucs could have had, mostly because Gruden knew them inside and out as well.

Horrible hire. His history is failure after failure

Could mean he's due for a success ....

When he had good players he did good at Oakland. At Cincinnati that entire team was dog **** same with Raiders in 2011. I'm sure he's an upgrade from Cosh, and I'll wait until he coaches to make any judgement.

that's what i was getting at. even if they were only to meet in the regular season, the staff that was on the raiders should have changed up their play calls. even if they only had two weeks to do it before the superbowl, they could have tried. the raiders defense wasn't terrible by any means that year - they did get to the super bowl and i think they beat the patriots on the way there too. their signal calling fubared their offense into gifting the bucs 21 points - otherwise that's an entirely different ball game (and i like the bucs but hey that's how the cookie crumbled that day). 27 offensive points on bresnahan's defense isn't great but not terrible (there were some short fields too).

Read his bio, he's from Springfield so I'm pulling a bit extra for him.  He's been around and seen a lot.  He has spent time in college and should full well know what he's getting himself into.  My concern doesnt address him specifically but it starts with the quote from earlier:

"Our motto is to be physical, relentless and intelligent", Chuck Bresnahan

I agree with his motto 100%. But  going from coaching NFL to college players wont be an easy task from the gate.  Coaches have systems that they use that require certain skill sets, including mental acuity.  Thats what his motto there suggests.  How will he transition back to college after dealing with seasoned players, even if from some of the worst run NFL organizations.

As an example- Iam a huge Bill Belichick fan and believe he would absolutely flop as a college coach.  His system depends less on athletes  which some college players will never become more than, and more on players learning roles and sticking to them.  Will we recruit the type of defensive players this guy needs?  What sort of player will that be, as we've seen rating stars dont always equate to success.

Im completely behind the hire, even if it seems a bit risky.

My question with new hire is about how is he going to be able to relate to young kids in recruiting, the last time he was recruiting Skid Row and Vanilla Ice were in fashion. I know it is strange question to most of you on this board but what makes him a qualified recruiter? Also when was the last time he defended the zone read or any other schemes which are found in college but not found in the NFL? Also if Willie T has in his mind to bring in NFL guys what connection does this guy have to FL and this area? As a defensive coordinator how does his scheme fit our players which we have on our team now?

This are questions that should be asked not have the BS on this board about his past record in the NFL what does that have to do with USF?

Just hop into the way back machine.  Study the diaries of Willie Williams, and yee shall succeed:

The Ballad Of Willie Williams
This story takes us way back to the year 2004 B.D. (Before Deadspin), and yes, sports existed even then. Back when a 19-year-old kid from Miami named Willie Williams was the most sought after football recruit in Florida and the Miami Herald figured, "Why not ask him to keep a diary of his on campus recruiting trips to let people see the experience from the inside." Why not, indeed? Maybe because the inside was the last place the universities ever wanted the press or public to look.Everyone already knew that highly-prized recruits were lavished with praise and attention, but no one quite understood the lengths (and dollars) that big time programs would go to, to land a blue-chipper like Williams. Private jets, steak and lobster dinners, personalized jerseys, nights on the town, cookies baked by the coach's wife—none of those things are allowed anymore ... thanks to the diaries that became an internet sensation. But they also brought unwanted attention to Williams. Days after he finally committed to Miami, it was revealed that he was was arrested 11 times as a juvenile and was still on probation when he enrolled for school. His life since then has seen five colleges in three different divisions, morearrests, and the birth of a daughter, now three. After struggling at Miami for two years, and getting kicked off the team at Louisville, he's now starting for Union College (Kentucky) of the NAIA and plans to graduate next year. He still has hopes of a shot at the NFL, which he may get. It's not his fault college coaches spent on more on gifts for him than they probably did on their own children, but his story is still a fascinating one. For example: how can one man eat all that lobster? The original diaries are archived behind a paywall, but are helpfully preserved by a Florida Marlins message board. (Of course.) Some of the highlights from his trips:

Florida State:
I ordered a steak and a lobster tail. The lobster tail was like $49.99. I couldn't believe something so little could cost so much. The steak didn't even have a price. The menu said something about market value. I was kind of embarrassed so I didn't order a lot. 'But then I saw what the other guys were ordering, I was like, `Forget this.' I called the waiter back and told him to bring me four lobster tails, two steaks and a Shrimp Scampi. It was good. I took two boxes back with me to the hotel.'' They had jerseys with our names on it. They even had my No. 17. I told them `Isn't that number retired for [Heisman winner] Charlie Ward? Coach [bobby] Bowden was like, `For you Willie, we'll bring it back.''
Miami:
Coach Larry Coker picked him up at his Carol City home in a white
, then put Williams up at the Mayfair House Hotel in Coconut Grove. Williams' room featured a jacuzzi on his balcony. Following the campus visit, the recruits boarded a bus with the coaching staff and headed for the Orange Bowl ... ''We'd get to a red light and I would hold on because the bus driver would just take it,'' he said. 'I was thinking the bus driver was crazy. Coach Coker was like, `Willie, we've got police escorts.'"
Auburn:
''The girls at the party were much better than
girls we'd see all day around campus,'' Williams said. ``I was kind of worried all Auburn had to offer was those farmer girls that talked funny. But the girls at the party weren't farmer girls at all. I thought they must have bused them in from Miami.''
Florida:
''I ate so many meatballs, the people there started looking like meatballs ... 'The first night I was OK with eating at the stadium. But when they told me we're going to eat there again, I was a little disappointed. I was like, `Take us to Red Lobster or something.' That's when I pretty much made up my mind. I can't live in a place that don't have any restaurants. What am I going to do — fly home to eat shrimp?''

What does a past coaching record have to do with USF? Are you serious? And NFL coaches develop players right out of the draft, so I am sure he can relate to young players.

The other BS questions are no different than your BS questions because the only questions that need to be answered will be answered this fall on the field ...

Ok so no one still has answered one of my question or even has a relevant response....  You think NFL record means anything? Old Chuck who is up at Kansas had a great a record in the NFL and Flopped. Pete Carroll had mediocre success in New England before he went to USC and was a one of winningest coaches in the past decade. My point being in college it is the jimmy's and the joe's and if this guy has not recruited since Bush 1 was in office I am concerned.
