I'm kind of surprised, however, It should help with local recruiting.

Robert Weiner is leaving Plant High to become the wide receivers coach at the University of South Florida, sources close to the situation confirmed to Bright House Sports Network.

Weiner is attending the AFCA national coaches convention in Nashville and was unavailable for comment. He is expected to meet with his team at 7 p.m. tonight in the school’s field house.

Weiner became the Panthers head coach in 2004 and in nine seasons, he led the program to four state championships and five state championship game appearances. The team currently holds a Hillsborough County-best streak of eight-straight district titles.

Prior to Plant, Weiner served as a long-time assistant coach at Jesuit under current Berkeley head coach Dominick Ciao.

He’ll join the USF staff led by new coach Willie Taggart, who has a great relationship with the area high school coaches because of his vigorous recruiting of the Tampa Bay area.

he's been a great coach at a local HS for about 10 years. he's developed a couple of highly sought QB prospects ( Robert Marve, Aaron Murray ) and developed a lot of good prospects in general. nice offensive mind and obviously super highly respected locally.
