the conference opponents we have played thus far have a combined record of 12-3. Even taking out the wins against us, that's a 9-3 record.

The three teams we have left to play - Cincy, UConn, Pitt - have a combined record of 2-7.

Can we take comfort in the fact that we've played the best of the Big East? Can we look at the record of the remaining teams and have hope that we can indeed beat these teams?

We also lost to a team that is 3-2 in the WAC

We have a legitimate shot to beat them just like we had a legitimate shot to beat the ones we've already lost to. This conference is a classic example of parity. In my best Captain Obvious voice, it's all in the how the games themselves play out. It boils down to which team makes the handful of the plays that decides most games and which doesn't ...

It all boils down to whether or not we're ahead by more than 8 on the opponent's last drive.

Our SOS, per Sagarin, is ranked highest in the BE at 45, Syracuse next at 50 with next lowest at 77 ... FWIW.

Correction: 8-4. Still demonstrates same concept.

Or whether we have to settle for 5 field goals

We lost to Ball St and Temple. There is no silver lining here. Nothing positive to take from anything this season.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
