Off of the ledge.

I have been a long time reader, and will admit i was/still am teetering on full on Defcon 5 fire skip mode. I found myself hoping this team loses to expedite the process of exterminating the coaching staff.

After this game I am willing to give CSH a little breathing room under one condition- get rid of Cosh. I see the blame going around, and the fingers pointed at various people (Mainly Holtz, BJ Daniels, and the defense/Cosh). But take a step back and look at what we do have. There is a core of wide recievers who will be able to produce big plays, an awesome tight end (who looks like a 30 year old man out there), hopefully a new QB that looks the part of a winner (no height issues like BJD, Elite11 MVP, wants to be a pocket passer), and Aaron Lynch.

Not too long ago USF won with a punishing D and questionable offense. Now we have the makings of a high powered offense if used like we saw in the 2nd half today, and a defense that with a coach that knows what he is doing SHOULD be top 50 in D1. I think we all need to hope for the best- that CSH fires Cosh and brings in a young version of Burnham. Consider the alternative for USF:

1. Fire Holtz

2. Lose Woulard and pick up another Eveld brother to lead us for the next 4 years.

3. Lose any hope of picking any type of talent LB or CB this year.

4. Rebuild for the next 3 years with some other person who USF will probably have to get on the cheap, since they spent $2.5MM to get rid of CSH.

5. Light up this site for the next 4 years about how we could have been great but Joel Miller ruined the dream.

I may be too optimistic, but here is how I see the future potentially happening:

1. CSH gets rid of Cosh, buying him another year.

2. He brings in Woulard and has a 3.5 year QB solution, along with some speedy LB's and maybe a cover corner or two.

3. Floyd starts the year out and works with a WR corps of: Davis, Montgomery, Mitchell, Welch, and a one legged Griffin. Throw in a now budding star in Price at Te. All of them one year removed from this mess, ready to show they can carry a team. Floyd can pull a Gary Nova and not lose games for the first few weeks with those guys.

4. With a new D scheme not giving away 5-7 games in the last 3 minutes of each game, USF can win 8 games next year. After that the sky is the limit.

In closing, I see the loss at Temple as rock bottom. USF played the #16 team in the country to a 2 point game, FSU was also closer than the score let on. IF (big if here) CSH acts on the incompetence of Cosh, we will look back at this year as our turning point. USF needed this. Every year we expect a 10 win season, and never understand that a matter of 15 minutes in a season can give a team 4 losses and send us into a message board rampage. I ready to watch the rest of this year with tempered expectations. If changes are made I will be all in again, USF deserves that. We are lucky to be where we are and I still have confidence that this administration will take us where we want to go.

sure took Skip a long time too finally post on here

jk-- interesting thoughts. While I find some of your points interesting, I see through the whole Holtz mystique or whatever. ANY other coach in the world would be on a hot seat for the past two seasons PERIOD.

I don't think he is an effective head coach. We can blame his DC all we want but he controls that guy. He can tell him what he wants done. NOTHING as I see it has changed since last season in our inability to defend when we need to badly-- especially late in games. Add in boneheaded coaching moves and the overal stink on this program right now and it screams to me-- let's reload.

I see so many more problems on this team than just Cosh. Although that seems to be a huge part of it. However, getting rid of cosh still doesn't eliminate the fact that our OL is horrible. Our WRs are athletic, but still less than average as a group. The special teams is a complete mess and the biggest problem of all is that we have a head coach that just isn't properly prepared to manage a close game in the last 4 minutes of a game.

Sorry, when the announcers talk about the decisions your head coach makes in disbelief...it's go time. Skip and his crew need to be relieved of their positions.

I don't need them to tell me what I am seeing with my own eyes.

what they don't talk about is Skip acting like the game was over when we scored our last TD-- he takes off his headset, ****-eating grin on his face-- like the game is in the bag and he can take it easy. I bet his dad saw that and gave him **** about it. I know I would.

I saw that grin right before the break I think. It bugged me a lot. I just thought to myself, Wtf is he smiling for, the game isn't over.

we had trouble on 3rd and longs last year. we lost 5 4th quarter leads last year and lost on the last possession 3 times last year. Cosh runs skips defense.
