CBS Radio Tampa Bay is bringing sports talk radio to the FM bandwidth.

It announced that beginning in August, Play 98.7 will become SPORTSRADIO 98.7 The Fan. It will be the first sports radio station on FM in the Tampa Bay market.

Listeners will also be able to hear it on 1010 AM as well as online at www.987thefan.com.

Hosts and reporters will be announced at a later date.

I know it is wishful thinking, but I hope they continue to play some of Steve Czaban's show in the morning. The show can be funny and irreverent. It is the only sports talk show which I seek out. I know that it probably will be eliminated since it takes away from the people who want to talk about the Bucs ad nauseum....

The simulcast works out well, as 98.7fm fades going into Lakeland, but you can get 1010am almost to Disney/east Polk. (yet 1010 fades off sr54 in land o'lakes...)

This is awesome. Having such a large USF presence on an FM station is huge. This is going to help USF in the Tampa area so much more than we can imagine. Great, great move by USF Athletics, and this is great for the city. Win-win all around.
