I misread the caption on the images, thinking it was condos for sale, rather than apartmets for rent. Agree - it needs retail on the 1st floor. Can't believe they wouldn't do that. The lack of commercial space likely has to do more with Hillsborough County Zoning, Planning, and Development. It probably would have been cost prohibitive to seek mixed zoning approval in this area, but that's just a speculatve hunch on my part. Not that this thread is in the Mad Cow, but... If that's the case, then the law needs to change. This whole "suburbanization" idea of segregating housing areas from retail areas was a huge mistake, IMO. Retail, office, and housing need to be mixed together so people can live, work, and shop without having to drive. It was a big scam perpetrated on us by the carmakers and oil companies (see Roger Rabbit for proof!! ) /rant Edited February 13, 2013 by charsibb

I start planning school in the fall, and Tampas awful history of planning helped influence that decision. Anywaysssss, back on topic haha... I'm thinking of doing a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning at USF. Where are you going to do "planning school?" I'll be at either FSU or UF. Already got into FSU but I'm still waiting on UF's decision. I don't really have a preference on either one, as both will provide me with what I'm after and are top 25 Planning departments according to Planetizen. USF's program is now in the brand new "school of public affairs", which will include the MPA program. It's definitely still in its infancy, but the professors that teach in the program are mostly people I have had for undergrad coursework and I can say I've enjoyed my time with them. Also: the job market in planning is a bit iffy right now, and entry level jobs can be tough to obtain. I'm a realist about things, but I'm also optimistic because I'm a bit more diversified in my goals as well as background. If you have anymore questions feel free to shoot me a message... I've done my homework on this stuff and have met with various faculty across the state so I have some knowledge on what's going on out there.
