Can't believe she gave up a grand slam. Wonder if they overused her early in the year. Has not pitched well in the last week or so - at least to her standards.

I know some girls on other BE teams. They've stated to me that Ken overplays our girls (as in # of games on our schedule, not, say, avg innings pitched) and that they're exhausted by the end of the season.

Could be a valid point...

Sorry Great 8. Game schedules are pretty uniform for the most part, minus inclement weather. Louisville was the better team today, but any time you leave that many runners on base, you're doomed to fail. Just my two cents. We are just as good as the 'Ville and just had a rough night.

Now we know why we were an RPI 19.

They're fairly uniform, but they can differ by +/- 10 games per team. That's pretty substantial, even for a league averaging ~50 games/year. That's 20% variance.

The girls I've talked to independently came up with a similar statement about how USF softball is ran. They're my friends, I wasn't probing them or something. But, it's been said a few times that we're a good team in the beginning of the year, and that toward the end we choke; partly because we're drained.

That said, we're far from the only team playing a lot of games. Notre Dame and Louisville both do it. Maybe they have more depth than we do though, is my thought.

Updated standings as of April 19.

One of the oddities of college softball, USF is in 3rd place but yet still have a half game lead on first place Louisville because of the 3 extra games we've played.

TEAM....Conference record :: Percentage :: Games Back :: Games Remaining

  1. Louisville...11-2 :: 0.846 :: 0.5 :: 09
  2. Syracuse..... 9-2 :: 0.818 :: 1.5 :: 11
  3. USF..........13-3 :: 0.813 :: 0.0 :: 06
  4. DePaul....... 8-3 :: 0.727 :: 2.5 :: 11
  5. Notre Dame... 5-3 :: 0.625 :: 4.0 :: 14*
  6. UConn........ 8-6 :: 0.571 :: 4.0 :: 08
  7. Rutgers...... 8-8 :: 0.500 :: 5.0 :: 06
  8. Providence... 5-7 :: 0.417 :: 6.0 :: 10
  9. Pitt......... 6-10 :: 0.375 :: 7.0 :: 06
  10. St Johns..... 3-8 :: 0.273 :: 7.5 :: 11
  11. Georgetown... 2-9 :: 0.182 :: 8.5 :: 11*
  12. Seton Hall... 2-9 :: 0.182 :: 8.5 :: 11
  13. Villanova.... 1-10 :: 0.091 :: 9.5 :: 11

Top 8 make the Big East tournament at Notre Dame.

Win Percentage matters most in the standings, even when total conference games played are not equal.

*Notre Dame and Georgetown still have to make up 3 games, but likely will not.

USF can finish no worse than 11th place, and could lock a trip to the BET this weekend depending on what happens around the conference.

Villanova and Pitt can no longer win the regular season title.
