What Heath does well is sign asst coaches. Coach Cox got us Collins, Robertson, Poland, and Nash. Coach A. Hipsher got us Javontae Hawkins. Coach Roc got USF Abdul Aleem, Egbunu, and Davis. He has us on some more primetime targets as well even with a couple blue chippers recently dropping USF. Heath can't coach and has been an underachiever the last 10 years. However he does know how to hire great asst coaches. Oronde Taliaferro and Glenn Cyprien are two more great recruiters Heath has had.

I'm curious to the 1 coach that got this recent commitment. Any asst coach that can recruit for Heath these days is just amazing to me.

A nice new arena doesn't hurt either.

Heath took too long to make the switch between Reggie Hanson and Andy Hipsher, IMHO. Hanson was dead weight, recruiting-wise, since he's been at USF with Heath. Roc has been the best recruiter Heath's had aboard since he started here. Cox's shtick was combing the JuCo circuit, Roc actually gets his foot in the door with high school prep kids. Hopefully, these recruits translate to a more exciting offensive scheme out of Heath because the stuff he runs now is just BORING.

Good post Toro. Hanson is terrible. I don't know if you remember a few years back where Heath actually had to take over recruiting himself because Hanson was such a huge liability in that department. Also Hanson was in charge of keeping records on how many times the coaches can go can go out on the road to recruit and he screwed that up too. USF ended up committing a secondary violation because of him and lost some time they could recruit on the road.

Hanson gets a lot of the blame for Tubby Smith's underachievement(UK standards) at Kentucky because he couldn't attract blue-chip prospects there. As you know you have to be a sorry recruiter if you can't recruit to UK.

Back to Heath as I'll say it again, if he lets these athletes play like athletes then USF would be a top half BE team this season and would be up there near the top every season of the future watered down Big East Conference. NCAAT appearances would be what's expected instead of hoping for 1 every 10-20 years. USF would annual be a top 25 rated basketball team. The fans would be there in support and we'd be discussing who will be our opponent in the sweet 16 on this board.
