If our catcher wasn't an idiot and knew that a force out negates a run scored then we would have won in regulation

There was a real nice crowd there but my guess is that 3,000 number included the girls softball tournament that was going on at the same time.  All 1,500 seats were filled and the excess went to the berm and outfield on the 3rd base side.  But there were not another 1,500 people there.

Initial impression of the stadium - WOW.  They really did get it right.  Except for when games are going on in both softball and baseball.  Someone is going to get killed by a foul ball going into the other stands or field.  A softball came over the roof and landed about 15' from us in the 3rd row of the baseball stadium behind the catcher.

Otherwise, this facility is spectacular.  And it was great seeing it filled.  I feel good about my donation to help build it.

Now for the bad news.  That power outage up in Gainesville wasn't entirely attributable to the Gator's pitching.  This lineup will have trouble scoring runs all year.  Fontanez pitched a gem for 7 innings and they went to bullpen in the 8th.  First reliever - walk, double, walk.  Quack came in and was in a position to get out of it.  Threw 2 fastballs in the 90s (we were sitting behind a Bulls player with a gun) to get ahead of an Elon batter and then threw him a curve that he topped up the middle.  That scored the 2nd run.

And then the play that someone earlier mentioned.  He struck a guy out on a high fastball that went to the backstop.  Runners were on 2nd and 3rd.  Instead of throwing to first to get the batter, he threw to the pitcher covering home to try to get the runner from 3rd.  Too late on that and then too late going to first as the batter didn't run initially.  Tied the game.  Looks like the starters are going to have to pitch 9 innings to get wins.

USF only had 5 hits and scored all their runs on home runs, a two run shot by Mende and a solo home run by, I believe, Rockhold.  And there doesn't appear to be much speed on the team.  Balls hit in the hole and up the middle that you would think might go for an infield hit, instead end up being outs.

Yes, he made the wrong play, but don't call him an idiot.  He got hit right in the mask with the ball and was disoriented from it. It was a snap reaction.

This is also the same catcher that gunned a runner at second and hit a solo homer.
