I have done that before in hopes of a cheaper flight and the fares tend to go up, not down, as you get closer to the date.

Just surprised me that this far out the fares are already over $300.  Previous times flying to Chicago I've done better.  But maybe this is as good as it gets this time.

That is way too much! 9 times out of 10 Southwest is NOT the lowest fare. They con you with that one way crap. I would wait cause you can easily do under $300 even on a holiday weekend. The best fares are normally loaded 3-4 months out. AA and United both also have directs to Chicago.

Leaving on Thursday 9/1 #1836 leaves 6:40am, arrives 8:20 am

Returning on Sunday 9/4 #1230 leaves 3:15pm, arrives 6:45pm
