Good Luck to Joe, I had a chance to talk with him during his only year at USF and was very impressed by his candid outlook on defense and his background.

Oh yeah, and he was also the only D-1 DC that Jason Pierre-Paul ever had - so he must have been doing something pretty solidly.

i could of coached JPP and he would be a stud.

'hey jason...that is the QB, go tackle him before he throws it"

that is the type of athlete that he is.  giving tresey any credit for JPP's draft status is foolish.

Yeah no ****, JPP was drafted on freakish athletic ability and "up side" not on being a great technician.

Good hire by UCLA.  He was a pretty solid coordinator for us.

If by solid you mean have the #6 defense in an 8 team conference while having 4 guys who got drafted (and another FA) and possibly another 1 or 2 to be drafted this year, then yes he was solid.

In any case, best of luck to him.

by what measure were we the 6th best defense in the conference?

A very shortsighted answer, but seeing as 2009 was his first and only season with us, and he came on late due to CJL's indecision in hiring, thereby getting little to no credit for new recruits, and overseeing a defense that gave an average of just under 20 points ... I think it's pretty solid.  Not to mention he had success the previous year at Cincinnati, the BE champion.

But feel free to misrepresent his body of work in so few words.  It's your right.

Would you tade Wally for Tresey?  Or Snyder for Tresey?  The answer in both cases is no.  Take out the 2 1-AA games and the scoring average was above 20.

true but our scheduling structure has been consistent in 12 game regular seasons.  if you're comparing him against our other DC's ( and most DC's at BCS schools ) you need only throw out 1 1-AA.  replace it with a non BCS school who maybe tacks on 2 td's to bring the scoring average up to 20.84

I was using the conference only statistics.  But I was wrong, we were 5th in both scoring and total defense.

We have had top 25-30 defenses for years and never had 5 players make the NFL in one season.  Look at the conference scoring average i posted above, 28ppg.

Pretty sure this has already been posted on here since it's a couple of days old.

Lol ... cygnus usually chimes in after the fact.  Surprised there's no separate thread sharing the news of Tresey's hire.  ;)
