Good hire by UCLA.  He was a pretty solid coordinator for us.

If by solid you mean have the #6 defense in an 8 team conference while having 4 guys who got drafted (and another FA) and possibly another 1 or 2 to be drafted this year, then yes he was solid.

In any case, best of luck to him.

The Bulls ranked 24th out of 120 teams nationally in total defense and were 19th in scoring defense.

A very shortsighted answer, but seeing as 2009 was his first and only season with us, and he came on late due to CJL's indecision in hiring, thereby getting little to no credit for new recruits, and overseeing a defense that gave an average of just under 20 points ... I think it's pretty solid.  Not to mention he had success the previous year at Cincinnati, the BE champion.

But feel free to misrepresent his body of work in so few words.  It's your right.

Oh yeah, and he was also the only D-1 DC that Jason Pierre-Paul ever had - so he must have been doing something pretty solidly.

Would you tade Wally for Tresey?  Or Snyder for Tresey?  The answer in both cases is no.  Take out the 2 1-AA games and the scoring average was above 20.

No, Tresey would be my third choice of those you mentioned.  But we don't get to pick and choose which games we count, especially when there is an evaluation period of only one season.  Burnham left of his own accord and Snyder was busy head coaching when Tresey came in, so obviously neither were options at the time and your questions are silly.  I feel as though Tresey would have been solid if he stayed, and we'll never know for sure, but facts that have been stated on this thread counteract your skeptical remarks.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
