Yes, he missed a couple of open receivers, but Skip's offense relies on a lot of play action and running.

We only had 95 yards on the ground. We averaged 2.6 yards on the ground. Play action is meaningless when the defense doesn't respect the run. BJ had -1 yards. He wasn't a threat to run. They blitzed on us all afternoon. Looking back now. Coaches and the rest of the offense didn't help out much. Coaches need to do a better job putting him in the situation to succeed.

It's funny, you know how the Cuse beat us up the gut rushing? They caught us in a 4-3...they then shifted to 4 WRs, that took Williams away from the LOS, leaving 4 DL, and two backers. They then ran to the side where they had blocking set up for a LB. You know why they could do that?

...because their QB could hit the broad side of a barn to one of the 4 WRs that we had to pull a LB to cover.

I am not making that up, saw it several times. They would spread out our LBs, leaving the middle pretty open.

The point is, if you can't throw the ball, the defense stacks the box and shuts down the run. It probably doesn't help that our OC gave them some extra incentive by saying something to the effect of "if the other team cant keep us from running, why would we ever throw the ball?" I bet that they made it their mission to keep us from beating them with the run...they succeeded.

No its mostly BJ in the third quarter they ran what looked like the same play twice on same drive and both times the guy on the right of the field was so open but BJ tosses the ball into double covg.

Sorry any decent QB and we win that game.

I know Holtz with time will get this offense on track.

decent play calling and we win that game.

everybody knows that passing is not bj daniels strength.

Why did the coaches call for pass plays on 9 first downs? That is not a passing down for our offense.

They called a pass play on first down from the syracuse 24 yard line that resulted in a sack and eventual missed field goal.

They called a first down pass play from the syracuse 31 yard line that resulted in an interception.

They also called pass plays from the syracuse 42 and 33 yard lines that were incomplete. That last one ended with a pick on 3rd and 6 from the 29 yard line. another 4 yards and that 3rd down is manageable or we're within field goal range and there is no reason to risk a pass at that point.

no coach in their right mind should be risking a pick or sack on first down in scoring position with our situation.

Poor QB play + poor Oline play + total lack of WRs + interesting play calling = a loss to any mediocre FBS team in the nation. Now if only those issues could be fixed in 4 days...

The OL is poor on their best day.  It's the same 5 starters as last year.  Big Deal.  They were bad last year and they're marginal this year.  Can't max protect every down to cover up for poor OL play.

good point

recruiting tp olineman wasnot a prioriy of prior administration

Pretty much.  BJ and the OL were awful on Saturday which lead to the WR's and RB's not being effective at all.  The play calling didn't do anything to counteract what cuse was doing defensively and we kept trying the same things over and over and they kept failing over and over.  The awful QB play, the OL getting abused, and the play calling lead to clusterfuck of an offense that we saw on Saturday.

Finally, just got a chance to watch the dvr'd game and this pretty much nailed it. Anybody solely blaming this on BJ is taking the easy way out. He did have a horrible game, but it was made worse because his errors were so freaking glaring, including an option play he kept instead of pitching to Lindsey, who had, at least 10yds open in front of him ... It was like he had spurts of temporary blindness ... but there were key drops, key penalties and sieve like OL play at times (Bass was missed) .... and I do kind of understand calling the same plays over and over again. Cuse was blowing coverages like crazy and it should have only been a matter of time before one hit.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
