For the first time since 2007, the Gators don't return a single All-American and are starting a brand new quarterback.

Maybe we are giving them too much credit.  Could they be ripe for the picking?

(fac-toid via Sportscenter)

They were ripe for the picking in 2007. That was the year we beat Auburn at Auburn and they turned around and beat Florida in the Swamp. But I think this QB is going to be better in his first year then Timmy was in his. Would you want to beat a program in their prime or after they lose their talent? Everyone will say that USF won because Tebow was gone, and if he was still there they would have beaten USF worse then Cincy. Its almost no win. Its like beating a crap Noles team last year that fell apart.

DUDE!  They are still the #3 team in the nation. Who cares?!?!!?

Who cares about preseason polls? They (UF) end up looking as bad as the Noles did at the end of last year, a win against them means jack after its all said and done. And USF was number 2 for a week. Unfortunately it wasn't the week after the NC game was played.  You think at the end of the season Rutgers was saying we beat #2 or we beat USF and exposed them?  BTW. For those saying that USF gains nothing by beating UCF, USF did not get to #2 until we beat them in 64-12, moving up a few spots during that 2007 season.

That had everything to do with the score AND other teams losing like crazy that year and nothing to do with the opponent. USF could have beaten any crappy team 64-12 and moved up to No. 2 that week.

LOL @ beating UCF getting us to #2 and not the mass of teams in front of us that lost.  You sound like you should be on the UCFsports board.

I bet, more than just one.

They probably have more All-American HS players on their team roster than just about anybody else.

Their recruiting has been off the charts in recent years. Based on that, just by the law of averages, quite a few of them will eventually end up All-Americans.

Too bad we play them at noon. Their depth is much deeper and they can substitute without much drop off in talent.

Having said that,  USF has won on the road as big underdogs in the past and all the pressure will be on them.  So, we really have a free shot at grabbing the brass ring.

So what? It was a poll. Strength of schedule does play into it. Boston College was behind USF and unbeaten so was Arizona State. LSU should have been in front of USF even with a loss. You really think USF could have beaten LSU that year, that week? You sound biased. You one of those USF is the Harvard of the South fans?

So your argument is that voters put USF above LSU because they were impressed with the Bulls' ability to beat UCF? Really?

USF moved into the top five with an impressive road win at Auburn and a big home win against No. 5 West Virginia. They moved to No. 2 because they crushed an opponent while other teams ahead of them lost. It happens all the time. If UCF had been the previous week and USF blew out FAU that week, the Bulls still would have moved up to No. 2. I'm not sure what you're arguing.

Slick,

At that point in the season people knew (or thought) USF was for real. With the teams in front losing it would not have mattered who we played. All that team had to do was win. They did win impressively, so that helped. They could have beaten Little Sisters of the Poor U 64-12 and be ranked 2.

I am arguing that if the voters thought UCF was a crap team USF would not have moved. There were 3 other undefeated teams in the polls that week. They could have jumped up too.

I remember another time when USF was ranked and right after beating UCF we DROPPED in the polls.  >:(

Actually there were 5 other undefeated teams that week. Undefeated Arizona State was ranked 14th the previous week and then just squeaked out a win over Washington State. There was no way they were even jumping into the Top 10. Kansas and Hawaii were even higher ranked than ASU the previous week so there's no way they come into play. That left OSU and BC. OSU is OSU and neither USF nor BC was going to jump them. BC beats a pathetic Notre Dame by only 13. If USF plays a closer game with UCF, I doubt we move up. Like Mama said, we've beaten them before and DROPPED. What matters was that we annihilated who we played and it could have been anybody. That coupled with our two previous wins over ranked teams, versus their zero wins, was enough to jump BC.
