it is because most boards... including team boards, are not nearly as moderated. Its not even comparable.

its not necessarily a bad thing...

Perhaps, but I think this board has a mission that has been stated a few times.  While I can't quote it, a component is promoting USF Athletics.  Many other "team" boards have a mission of increasing traffic to increase add $.  If that is your mission than not only do you allow bashing, you almost encourage it.

Just my 2 cents - I am pretty happy with the level of moderation.  If I wasn't, I'd politely discuss it with moderators/Brad/community.  If that didn't work, I'd find some place more to my liking.  Nothing wrong with suggestions to try and make this a more enjoyable place for us all - but the constant crying/complaining from a tiny minority does get all.

(Not directed at you - and really not directed at anyone, just an observation)

The Bullspen was created to discuss USF Athletics.  As it grew, so did places to discuss other topics.

I don't understand why anyone would expect a thread about the Tampa Bay Rays should be cluttering a board meant to discuss USF Athletics.

I actually think this is one of the things that makes this board great.  YOu talk sports with a group of people and you want their opinion - or to express yours on a topic like the Rays.  On other boards you'd do something awful like "OT: Did you see that new pitcher??"  - Heck if you knew it was off-topic why did ou post it?

So here we have boards to pretty much cover anything you could wnat to talk about AND we have a clean and focused main board.

I'm genuinely interested to know why that quote brought on that kind of reaction? Do you guys really think it's that moderated in here ... or is it that there are many boards out there with basically zero moderation?

Well for starters have a look at the 11 locked threads on the Leavitt/Miller board...

I was really refering to this board when I said "in here" since that's where the bulk of the activity is ... The board you referenced is basically a zoo and should probably just be eliminated.

Over the last ten years or so I have watched 4 of my favorite boards basically self destruct from within. They were all unmoderated and trolls and personal wars just took over.

"least moderated boards out there" = that is a good one  ::)

Yeah LOL @ this place being "one of the least moderated boards out there".

These message boards are some of the least moderated boards out there.

I don't mind it, and I don't know that I've ever been moderated myself, but it's amusing to see the discussions moved and locked. The statement is amplified by timing really. It's generally a pretty open board, the whole Leavitt mess was quite moderated though.

there are certain people on this board that were just interjecting their point of view over and over (almost lobbying) no matter what the discussion at hand  was or if it warrented their input.  hence  :deadhorse

If you are not donating $ to make the board run than you cannot ***** about the level of moderation.

The Bullspen is one of the least moderated boards I frequent.  There are less moderated boards, but 95% of the posts on those boards are a complete waste of time.  I don't waste my time with them.  The best boards I have seen are on a fantasy baseball site.  Anything close to a personal attack is dealt with immediately.

There is a high level of discussion and disagreement in a civil manner.  The result is a rich environment where much can be learned.  I can only dream of the day we can generate anything close to that environment here.

how can a fantasy baseball board be anywhere near the amount of passion and pride that deals with a college football team that most of us donate a lot of money and time to?

i disagree.  this board wouldnt exsist in its same capacity and greatness if it was 10 people sitting around argeeing with each other.

I've got to disagree there, too .... It's not like the moderators are paid and more money coming in means better moderating.
