It's part of building a program.

Notice that FSU invited us to go up to Tallahassee in order to sell tickets because they've had trouble packing Doak Campbell for inferior opponents and they have far more tradition than we do.

For UCF the St. Pete Bowl was a chance to show the Big East that they belonged in the conference.  For us it wasn't even a vacation or a means to get out of the area and it happened during a time when family is often visiting and there is a lot to be done.

A couple of bigger bowl berths would set the stage for better showings at the lesser bowl berths.

No blame ... we just don't have the numbers.

Look at UF in the 70's & 80's

Look at South Carolina during their winless season

THOSE are great fans !

... If we were playing a team from a higher profiled conference (bascially any other BCS conference) we would have sold it out, too ...

There would still be an *

Depending on who that team would have been ... Vandy, Duke, Baylor ?  ;D

We would of had more, but not near a sellout - unless their fans eclipsed ours.

Hell, if any of those three teams made a bowl they probably would eclipse ours ....  ;)

.... but we still would have brought more than Memphis.

That pretty much sums it up ....It will be interesting to see what kind of turnout we have when we make the Orlando bowl.

Bowl games do walk a very thin line on the verge of meaningless...

it pulls money for school, allows the draftable plays one last showcase game, and brings money to the host city...but if its not a BCS game, its just an exhibition game...

True ... just like the Spring Game.

We just don't have many Die Hard fans.

Jim Leavitt spring games were like watching paint dry.

... much less meaningless games.

Disagree that a BOWL game is meaningless.

You and I might not agree, but there are a LOT of fans out there that weren't interested by the SP Bowl.

I went, but will never attend another SP Bowl.  Bottom feeder teams playing in a terrible venue, in a host city that doesn't give a crap about the game. Thanks, but no thanks.  It was a made for TV production, so I'll watch it on the tube.

So it was a vacay for the people driving (all the way over!!!) from Orlando? I guess that also means we are the only school with "a lot to be done."

Even though it isnt the best bowl in the world, it is a great way for people in our area to experience a bowl game, with the local team in it. Making excuses for USF "fans" not showing up is horsefeathers.

What else do those fans have to do in their respective cities? There are a good amount of options for people in this market to spend their $$$, especially when it comes to sports.

We're building slowly but surely. Just a few seasons ago we were barely hitting 40,000 in attendance and now we're averaging over 50,000 for the season.

any one of us who makes an excuse why UCF brought like almost 20k and we brought way way way way less is foolish.

A bowl game is not pointless and meaningless. Sometimes how well your fans travel can be the difference between an invite to a awesome bowl and not an invite.

UCF impressed me w/ that support and so did Rutgers.

8_va why make excuses? it looked bad that we could cause a sellout to a game that close with a small venue.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
