While the Rutgers program has emerged from the dungeons of college football, the Scarlet Knights and the University of South Florida are still the only teams remaining in the Big East who have not won a conference title. That statistic needs to change if RU football head coach Greg Schiano wants to keep the Rutgers name popular in New Jersey and in the national spotlight.

RU was a few plays short of two Big East titles in both 2006 and 2008. West Virginia and Cincinnati were party crashers in each of those seasons. The University finished both of those seasons 5-2 in conference and one game away from a Bowl Championship Series berth.

Schiano preaches that the program will improve, and that is in the works. Schiano also talked about championships from day one. People may have thought he was crazy at first, but with a solid program in place, it is time to finally take the next step and earn a Big East Championship.

This program has all the pieces in place to finally accomplish that lofty goal. Even though there are no Mike Teel, Kenny Britt, Tiquan Underwood or Ray Rice anymore, 2009 may be the best chance for Rutgers to get a conference title for a few reasons.

I hate Rutgers so much I plan on adding the Sept. 17th Cincy / Rutgirls game to our Watch Party schedule so that we can cheer them on as they get their asses handed to them in the first game of the year.

2. I saw Signing Day for us and our fans on this message board tend to overhype our class way too much.  We have too many JUCO transfers and you shouldn't build your program off of JUCO's.  Leavitt is using his KSU philosophy and it will collapse like a house of cards.
