With the amount of DE that we got this year, would it make sense to switch to a 3-4?  Could be a good way to utilize everyone.

i would say no. Keep as many DL on the field possible. 4:3 is good, i think we could & should use a 5:2 D in certain cases.

Why go to a 3-4 when we have so many DE's and not enough depth at LB?

this.

i think Dave's idea of a 5-2 is a good idea... one of the DEs could easily audible to a rover/LB position if need be.

I like the idea of running a 5-2 at times. We need to anchor our defense around our DL.

We got too much DL definitely for a 3-4.  Howver a 4-4 and a 5-2 to mix it up on short yardage downs would be great.

Most importantly, I think we need to mix in more blitzes and zone coverage in the 4-3 scheme we already use.

you people know that A. to run the 3/4 that you have have monster nose tackle a ( which we do not have) B. Teaching the 3/4 or any other defense to this team would take more time then USF has to spare C. Over all this team is built on having 4/3 personnel and  would have a lot gaps in coverage and match up when came to the big east when came to the run.

in most cases when teams go to the 3-4 then guys who played DE in a 4-3 become LBs in 3-4.  selvie is probably going to be drafted by a team that runs a 3-4 at the next level and be a LB in the NFL.

Bad idea. First, we don't have the personnel to run the 3-4. Second, the 3-4 is difficult to teach, especially to college kids. Third, more of our opponents are rushing-oriented and we're better suited to have more linemen on the field to combat that.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
