While I generally feel my sports knowledge adequate, I can’t say that I know the intricacies of implementing a 5-2 setup. That being said, I am having some fun playing armchair DC / DL coach nonetheless. Given the Bulls’ position of strength (DE), what if we lined up two DTs and three DEs? The third of which could rush on some downs and drop back and cover the TE or receiver in the slot on others. Selvie has the speed and ability to do this well. Meanwhile, it would keep the opposing QB and coaches on their toes. Because of the scheme’s inherent unpredictability, they would have no idea when to expect to face a jailbreak rush of three speedy DEs. It seems pretty unconventional and, thus, unlikely to come to fruition at USF. But I think such a defensive setup could highlight our team’s strength without leaving us vulnerable. What do y’all think?
