USF will have two players at the NFL combine this year Taurus Johnson (Group 4, WO18) and Tyrone McKenzie (Group 9, LB20).  The combine goes from 2/18 - 2/24.

What is more amazing is that Miami .. The "U" ... only has one player at the combine this year.

How many thought we would be in a position this early to possibly have more players drafted by the NFL than the Miami?

Miami is an extremely young team with the bulk of their starters being underclassmen. And Cinci's 11/12 defensive starters were seniors. Hopefully our boys can put on a good showing at the combine.

McKenzie, Johnson to be poked, prodded

Hoping to touch base with former USF linebacker Tyrone McKenzie and receiver Taurus Johnson as they go into a huge five days at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, where a fraction of a second here or there could move them up or down considerably in April's NFL Draft.

Johnson has already helped his draft stock with what was generally reported as a solid week at the East-West Shrine Game, and McKenzie is hoping to solidify his status after a productive showing in the Senior Bowl in Mobile. We'll have updates throughout the weekend as more numbers come in on both players.

Only one Big East program has fewer than USF's two players -- that'd be Syracuse, with one. Cincinnati, fresh off a league title, leads the way with six, followed by Connecticut with four. Louisville, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and West Virginia all have three players each in Indianapolis.

Using the NFL.com database (which, oddly, didn't include Johnson), you also see that the Big East has the fewest combine participants of the six BCS conferences. The SEC has 46, the Big Ten has 39, Pac-10 has 38, ACC has 37 and Big 12 has 32. The next three most-represented leagues are Conference USA (14), the WAC (13), Mountain West (12). Then you see how much power is in the larger conferences -- after the MAC (6) and Southland (6), the rest of college football accounts for just 17 players.

-- As up-and-down as Gus Gilchrist's freshman season has been at USF, it's amazing how much his name still comes up in stories and message-board rants out of Maryland, in references such as this Terrapins blog.

-- Huge home game tonight for women's basketball, which could help itself considerably by pulling off a win against No. 24 Notre Dame, which has dropped three straight road games coming into tonight's game. Here's the writeup from the South Bend Tribune, which shows a healthy respect for the Bulls.

Good luck to them, I really hope taurus johnson does well.  I think he is a waste of talent.

You must have meant that we should have made better use of his talent while he was playing for USF right?

He is no waste of talent. Just became victim of GG..

I believe linebackers and wide receivers work out on Sunday and Monday. It's been a couple days since I checked, so it might be Saturday/Sunday, but I'm pretty sure it's Sunday/Monday
