As the wife and I were driving from the airport to our hotel (on the west side of town) we notice not one, but two billboards for USF football on I-10 (their equivalant to I-275 in Tampa. I don't remember the exact wording, but they essentially said Join the Stampede and USF was happy to be in El Paso. One was westbound near the downtown exit and the other was near the Sun Bowl stadium exit. Brilliant PR move by USF. If you are a local football fan and don't have a dog in the fight, I think you ae more likely to cheer for a team that is showing gratitude and "branding" itself on billboards. Maybe we will have the "homefield advantage"!!!!

A lot of people in Texas have never been to El Paso and practically don't even realize it is part of the state it is so far away from everywhere else.  Well over 500-700 miles west of the major cities Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.  The majority of Texas is not like El Paso, in fact east Texas is much more like Florida than El Paso.

GOOD SIGN: USF took an extra step to thank the El Paso area for its hospitality, buying three billboards on local interstates, saying "The Bulls are proud to be in El Paso" and "Join The Stampede." USF went so far as to go bilingual with its message, which says "te deseo feliz navidad y prospero ano nuevo" we wish you a merry Christmas and happy new year.

The billboards cost about $10,000, but USF had one of the billboards donated and had Raymond James of Tampa help defray much of the costs. OAI Inc. of Tampa donated the vinyl.

I think it is pretty cool here.  It's not like any place I've ever been.  The desert is just like you see in cowboy flicks.

That's true.  But, the eastern half of Texas is just as green with as many trees of FL though.  You can't tell the difference from East Texas and Louisiana or Mississippi.
