Southern Miss will be C-USA team in Birmingham bowl

Southern Miss' coach said -- in opposing USF's entry into C-USA -- "we want quality not quantity" ....

I will always root against that coach... and hope he gets punked for the rest of his life.

Why all the bad blood between Southern Miss and USF?

What the other people said about the fans etc, and what Gary said at the end of his post.....we were supposed to join C-USA in 2001. At the meeting to finalize that, Southern Miss voted against it, and their coach said, "we want quality, not quantity" and it has not be forgotten.

Now that I think of it, why was this bowl game in such a screaming hurry to invite Southern Miss?

Whatever Big East team goes there, it will be at least the second-toughest toughest C-USA bowl opponent. And you can make a case for Cincinnati or USF being a stronger opponent than the 6th or 7th best team in the SEC, which the C-USA champion will face in the Liberty Bowl.

I thought for sure the Birmingham slot would go to Houston, or maybe the C-USA title game loser. UCF, Houston, and Tulsa are pretty clearly the top three teams in C-USA. (Seriously, look at some of the teams Memphis, USM, and East Carolina have lost to.)

For the pizza bowl to so quickly invite a mediocre-at-best Southern Miss team tells me they're not serious about making this game competitive. And that makes this bowl destination even less appealing for the Big East. I only hope there's some kind of deal going on to swap the Big East team from this game.

I realize that Southern Miss has a good-sized fan base that travels to the various bowl games they go to. But I guess what I'm saying is: when it comes to a bowl opponent, we want quality, not quantity.

Gary

Houston is going to the Houston Bowl to play Texas AM probably. That bowl wanted a team from texas there.

The loser of Tulsa-UCF probably ends up in GMAC thats the CUSA 2nd pick bowl.

So in reality the Pizza Bowl had to choose between USM,Memphis or ECU

Out of those USM was their best call

Their fans, especially the students, are the worst I've ever experienced. I was on the sideline for the last game against them at S. Miss and they were AWFUL. They yelled every racial obscenity they could. As bad as that is, what's worse is they threw so much stuff at us...and the police presence did nothing. Of course, it doesn't help that there's about 10 feet between the stands and the field.

if we get sent to this bowl-- we should be allowed to dump out of our last UCF game as we would have fulfilled the CUSA exit agreement more or less--- with the ECU game thrown in to boot

Could you just hear the knights if we didn't play that last game?  It would just prove that they are the better team and have been all along.  It's just that the scoreboard said differently, but that's just the scoreboard.  See, USF IS running away because they are afraid, yadda, yadda.   ::)

I say we take the W and be done with them.  Four in a row should put the thing to rest.  Three in a row and the solid humiliation we gave them has already toned the rhetoric down considerably from Orlando.

They will bring the most fans of the eligible teams from C-USA. Pretty much a no brainer selection for them.

I am sure WVU fans would apprecaite the gesture - another BE school buying out the return trip to UCF.

Quality versus quantity. I would give up the extra money from the Sun or Meineke bowls to get a chance to show or quality to Southern P***. I hope we get up by thirty and CJL does the onside kick. Southern P*** must be a no class school given the no class scumbag they have lead their football program. Quality versus quantity will never be forgotten until the last of the fans around in 2001 is gone. Go Bulls!!
