It may be golf on ABC.

November 12, 2007

More important for TV: Bulls or golf?

With USF's final regular-season game at Pittsburgh set for a noon kickoff, WFTS, the ABC affiliate in Tampa, apparently has a tough decision to make: Do they pick up the regional broadcast of the Bulls, or televise the first round of the Skins Game golf tournament from California?

Is this a tough call? WFTS said Monday that they would have a decision on Tuesday or Wednesday. I imagine the golf audience is strong enough to make it a tough decision from a ratings standpoint, but you're choosing between the local college team playing its final game on the road, or the first round of a non-major tournament. You guys aren't exactly an unbiased audience to answer that question, but ...

If WFTS goes with the golf, the game could be picked up by Bright House Networks Catch 47, but that doesn't help fans who don't have their cable through Bright House and would then have to turn to ESPN's pay-per-view GamePlan product.

I am pretty sure that if they play golf the Bullspeners will give the local ABC station hell.

And that, sports fans, is why USF sponsors watch parties throughout the area. If it's on the air, it's at the party.

It's the last regular game of the season, so this is a great opportunity to hob-nob with the Brotherhood of the Hornz. Oh, and I'm sure most places can find a 9 inch screen upon which to view...what was it? Golf? Yeah, the golf thingy.
