Such a crazy season.... could the national champion have 2 losses???

First, I really think the pressure is now off USF.  Sure, there are some tough games left on the schedule... U Conn suddenly looks much better than anyone had thought...

However, this is such a crazy season ... there are only five undefeated teams... and just a handful more with only one loss.  Which means we could realistically be looking at the best teams having 2 losses...

Take a look at schedules the undefeated and 1-loss teams... Oklahoma and LSU have the best chance of remaining with 1-loss, but they have a 13th game: conference championships.

If USF can win out, USF could easily be back in the Top 10... we have a wild football season yet to come...

I disagree.  This kind of season PROVES that the regular season is a playoff.  It's not single-elimination (like March Madness), but it shows how important it is to not only win games, but to have a strong schedule as well.

Trust me, I used to advocate a playoff.  Now I'm not so sure.

but a 1-loss USF or Boston College or Kansas or Missouri would NOT get consideration unless all the teams mentioned above had 2 losses, regardless of schedule.

bottom line, regardless of SOS, big name "traditional" schools always get consideration over the lesser established BCS schools.  it's a popularity contest based on perception which is not always correct (i.e. SEC is always tougher than any other conference), and not based on which team is actually better.

a playoff system between the 6 BCS conference champions and 2 wild cards would solve some of that problem.

A playoff system like the one you mention might be better, but it would not eliminate the politics of the game.  Who gets the 2 wild card spots???

USF is definitley in a better position that is was before joining the Big East.  

Getting to #2 this year and remaining competetive gives us credibility in the future.  

If we schedule agressively like we've done this year and go undefeated, we improve our chances at an NC, but not guarnateed one.  Look at Auburn a few years ago, Yes an undefeated SEC left out of the NC game.

If we were in C-USA we would never have a shot.  Look at Tulane and Boise.

FWIW: The guys on GameDay predicted USF will only drop to 9 or 10 in the BCS after the loss... which means USF isn't really as far out of it as you guys are thinking.

Sure, we drop behind some other 1-loss teams, but that is because our loss is more recent than theirs...

Michigan is a "big name" and they were dropped like a rock... USC lost to Stanford and is outside the Top 10.  I think you guys are blowing it out of proportion.
