Parking for COE just got a little more tricky.....

Facilities Planning has announced construction will begin at the end of this summer on the Phase IV Resident Housing expansion North of the Magnolia housing. As a result, parking lot 24 (S, E, MR, Visitor) is scheduled to close mid summer 2007 for equipment, material staging and construction of the new 1000 bed Resident Housing. Parking lot 47 and 47A will remain available for Magnolia Resident, S, E, and Visitor parking. To offset the loss of these spaces, preparations are underway to develop temporary alternate parking locations near the College of Engineering. Displaced S permit holders (Non Resident Student) may also park in the New Laurel Parking Garage located at the corner of Laurel and West Holly Drive with convenient Bull Runner service.

Please monitor this website as well as other USF websites, postings and mail outs for information and updates.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

As I was driving off campus yesterday, I noticed that there has been a large area roped off parallel to Leroy Collins Blvd stretching from Alumni Drive to the physics building...that is where the temp parking is going to be at while the new 1000 bed dorm is being built.

Parking is going to be nasty this year until the new garage opens up.

At least we have parking. When I visited UF, they said when you pay for a parking permit it doesn't give you the right to park, it gives you the right to hunt for parking.

I was on-campus yesterday and saw some of the construction.

The new ROTC Leadership building, looks very nice. All that's left is interior work and landscaping. Should be a really beauty when it's finished this fall.

The new Marshall center is coming along nicely. Just by seeing a small section going up, you can tell that it is going to be HUGE. It's going to stand out and really become the center of the campus.

Does anyone know what they are doing at the west end of the lawn, down by the Natural Sciences building?

I was wondering what that rope was for...I was on campus yesterday and saw it. That will not be visually appealing at all.

What's the name of the building abbreviated NAN? Is that a nanotechnology research facility?

It looks like they added "USF" to almost every street.  Like USF Holly, etc.

thats because there already is a holly, maple, etc -- in west tampa. they added usf to everything so mail wouldnt get sent to the wrong side of town. If you ask me - they should have just renamed the streets. there was a "way finding committee" set up in 2003. Our recommendations would have renamed all of the streets on campus something Bull or USF spirit related. I don't know why they didn't implement our suggestions. I suppose the saying is correct that --- if you want something done right - do it yourself. if you want something done in 20 yrs - give it to a committee.

Actually, the new street signs have to do with a program with Hillsborough county related to 911 calls and some new system they've implimented to help the emergency workers find buildings. Some may have also noticed that each building has a sign out front now that has the physical address of that building, which is new within the last 6 months or so.

Well then why didn't they just rename all the streets according to the new names that were approved in 2003? My dad does some work with the honors college and  the west tampa argument is what they gave him. I think adding USF to every street is stupid. When people are driving  - I am guessing they know that they are at the university of south florida. I don't get it at all and I think it looks bad.

And I can't tell if a new library or a new cooper is on the 10 year plan at all. You can't tell what the proposed buildings are on the map. Does anyone know?

I've sat on the campus development committee for 2 years through sg and "new" library or a new cooper are not in the 10 year or long term master plan yet.  Things are added all the time when funding is brought in or available, but with the recent cuts, I don't see large projects such as that coming in.  You can find any info about new projects at: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/FacilitiesPlan/index.html and the master plan photo is at: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/FacilitiesPlan/Campus%20Planning/ImagePDF/f3.3_USF_Illustrative.pdf.  Now a new classroom building IS going up someday next to cooper (not replacing it) and the library is getting renovated and getting add ons (check out the map photo above and look at the purple around the library).  All current projects that USF is asking the state for can be found on this pdf: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/FacilitiesPlan/Campus%20Planning/CIP%202&3s08-09%206.19.07.pdf  Current ongoing projects are listed on this pdf: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/FacilitiesPlan/Projects/Project%20Status%20Report_July%202007.pdf

The sign changes were mandated by the State Fire Marshals office in regards to fire/rescue and police response times on campus.  Currently, UPD must escort fire/rescue units through campus since they have no clue where anything is on campus.  A UPD officer waits on the entrance for FD and then escorts them to the area.  This, of course, cuts down on the number of officers able to respond (which is already drasticly low, we need around 20 more officers to be "ok" according to the chief) and isn't good since fire-rescue couldn't get on campus and find their way in a major emergency where extra units would not be available.

If it's right next to ENA 104 then yes it should be the nanotech building.
