Do the math.  If the Sundome was sold out everygame, how much more $$$ would the university be generating.

I don't ever want to see another post asking where we would get the money for a big name coach.  Ask KSU if their investment has paid off.

If we had to depend on tickets to pay coach salaries we would not have a coach. Donors and Boosters pay salaries with donations. I buy Bball season tickets but do not go to game. I do it to give to the school. I am not in town enough to attend games. I also donate a chunk of money to the school. This will not change no matter how the team does. If I have a problem I will address it privately with the people I give the money to.

Many on here seem to go to a few games and buy a couple of tickets and then say we deserve a winning program. Well put your money where your mouth is and put up some real money. Then we can afford a great coach.

If some posters (ARi, 83, etc) donated a penny for every whining word they wrote we would have OCS, Big Time Bball coach, and new arena.

Actually, there are enough northerners in Florida to make it seem like hockeytown USA.  The NHL knew that if they put some teams down here, they would get great support because of that, and they were right.  The NBA chose to expand into smaller metropolitan areas, why do you think that happened?

The only reason the Lightning draw is due to winning.

The Lightning have averaged around 15K a game since their inception. They weren't winning all that time. 15K is not world beating but still pretty impressive for here.

LA is not a NFL town, how many more teams have to move from there are shun moving there before you realize that? Green Bay and Pittsburgh are NFL towns. Go there and you will see what that means.

Trip that isn't true. I did a project on this a few years ago.

Tampa Bay Lightning 1997-98 41 568,579 13,868

Tampa Bay Lightning 1998-99 41 471,948 11,511

Tampa Bay Lightning 1999-00 41 557,618 13,600

They averaged a shade below 15,000 in 2000-01 and have steadily increased since that season.

I guess you no more then the NCAA....I am pretty sure Tampa has hosted it's fair share of Tourney games.

Another apples to oranges comparison, you guys are just full of them!  Are you really trying to tell me that Tampa is a bball town because the Tourney has been hosted here?  That is fricking HILARIOUS!

EVERY city wants to host the tourney, just like every city wants to host the Superbowl, just like every city wants to host the All-Star game.  The NCAA loves to do it in Florida because of the weather.  Tampa happens to be a great spot for them to use.  It certainly isn't because tampa supports college basketball, that's hilarious.

Keep those fallacies coming...

good lord.  since you are the one and only truth, just list all the cities that host that aren't basketball towns.

Let me help him out:

For starters St Petersburg, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and Atlanta (the Hawks are dying) St Louis.

I base this on the cities either having had NBA teams that have left or teams that may leave and a NCAA team that has mediocre attendance. Or a place like St Pete that has no team will never have one.

It all adds up to more than 15,000 a year if you include ALL the data and not just the three lowest.

But you aren't taking into consideration their first five years of exisence where they averaged over 17K per game. I didn't say they averaged at least 15K per game every year, just that they averaged 15K over their existence, per the following site:

Yes, but there has been lean years. Just as all sports in Tampa have had lean years.

I think it's silly to say Tampa isn't couldn't be a basketball town, especially when this city has proven to not draw much interest when teams have consistently not done well.

edit: Obviously it isn't a consistent Bball town now. However, The Magic games have drawn well here. Further UF and FAMU drew a decent crowd considering is was basically a scrimmage for UF. I think a winning basketball team would draw fine.

Unique situation that the NFL is working to fix.  Nice try though, but not comparable to Tampa's lack of an NBA team.  Laughable how far you darksiders will go with your fallacies...

you keep putting down tampa like you dont think they deserve any sport..go root for another university outside of tampa

No, I realistically assess how the city supports sports, and they don't support bball.  Sorry if you don't like that, but that is just too fricking bad.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
