http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2006-12-06-bowl-payouts_x.htm

The Big East pays schools that make a bowl game on a tiered basis, with a BCS game worth $2.4 million, the second bowl $1.6 million, the third $1.3 million and the fourth and fifth $1.1 million. "We just take all our bowl money, put it together, and we distribute it fairly," said associate commissioner Nick Carparelli, adding that the league wants to make sure schools can cover their expenses.

So, if I'm reading that article correctly, the only teams that receive Big East bowl money are the teams that went to bowls .... Seems fair.

A I understand it, they split the rest of the bowl earnings equally among the 8 schools.  The Orange Bowl alone had a $17 million payout and the Gator $2.25.

So, if my calculations are correct, we received arounf $2.9 million total from Big East bowl money, correct?

Cuban is right about ND.  They used to get the full amount of the payout, but now they do not.  I think that changed last year.

they shouldnt get one of our bowls to begin with, so the less money they get the better.

thing is I believe teams that did not go to bowl games receive the same money - revenues are split evenly among conference members

This is incorrect. The 1.1 million was our allotment for this bowl game. If we had gone to the Gator I think it is 1.4 million.  THe teams that dont go to a bowl dont get this money.

We will get more money once the conference splits up the revenues from the bowl game. The 1.1 is JUST to help us cover the cost of the bowl. The conference then takes the money we get from the bowl and divides that up. Last year we got about 3 million more.

THis is a GREAT part of being in a BCS conference.

Out of the 10K tickets that the school received, they had to pay for seats for the band and band staff members which was prob in the 250 person range....

Hauling Bull nice work. Not a bad payday. If we can get 2 Big East teams in the BCS games we would make an absolute killing.

This is the reasoning the ACC used to raid the Big East.  Turning out well for us.

Not really the 2nd team only gets 4.5M the money would go up a little bit more.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
