TAMPA, FLA. (January 18, 2007) – Following the death of USF freshman running back Keeley Dorsey on Wednesday, head coach Jim Leavitt has canceled the team’s annual banquet, scheduled for this Saturday evening. A decision on if and when the banquet will be re-scheduled will be made at a later time. Additionally, USF has canceled all on-campus recruiting visits this weekend.

Classy move. Leavitt's "every man" persona is well-suited for these moments, unfortunately, he needs to use it now.  I wish him luck.

^agreed.

When the Tennessee Tech guy got knocked into the coma, CJL was there for the family every step of the way.

this shows you the kind of man Leavitt is.  This is a HUGE weekend recruiting wise for USF.  Not only were some enormous names coming in for a visit, but it was banquet weekend.

Leavitt canceling both, and not giving the tacty "I know KD would have wanted to continue on with the banquet" line that most coaches give for such selfish reasons- should tell everyone what type of person Leavitt is, and coach he is.  Some things are more important and despite his tough persona, Jim Leavitt has always recognized that fact.

CJL has always done what is right for USF and their athletes...

Why change now?

So true   So true

Jl is a class guy and a good man.  I wonder if the local news media is reporting his activities now.

Hopefully the recruits family see it the same way.  Go to a place where the coaches and administration care about the players.

A*$*S*H*O*L*E* thing to say.

While it might hurt USF in some eyes it might help USF in others. It shows a committment to the players and their families

Do you really think the student hosts are going to be all about showing recruits around? DO you really think the coaching staff is going to be excited and thrilling for the players? If this were after the funeral maybe I can see your point, but this will be three days after this tragedy.

Ya, we might lose 1 or 2 guys, but if we lose 1 or 2 guys because we were doing what the coaching staff felt was right so what. As I said, do you really think the players and the coaches are going to be very inducing to a recruit this weekend anyway?

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
