UD, I truly wish I could meet you there, but this game got trumped by my daughter and my newborn grandson coming in from Wichita on the 20th.  They are only staying 10 days and I am crazy about my first grandchild.  It is killing me, but family is no. 1.  Have the beer that I would have bought you!

Hey...God..Country..Family..University football(not necessarily in that order)..Understand completely....Give the NEW Bulls fan all GrandDADs attention...NOTHING BETTER!!

The Tamiami Trail (US Hwy 41) was the gateway to south Florida long before I-95.

US Hwy 1

Yes, there is more than one gateway, but we're talking about the Tampa area.

Well, you said Tampa is "the gateway" to south Florida not "a gateway".

Orlando is a gateway to Tampa and to South Florida

The Florida Coast Line Canal & Transportation Company (Flagler's railroad) truly was The Gateway to South Florida....I'd say it trumps  US 41 by a long shot.

As far as USF's name and locations goes it's been the source of confusion  since it's inception, but it sure beats "Jose Gasparilla University" but a south Florida mile    To my knowlege, there wasn't even anyone by the name of Jose Gasparilla.

Can you imagine The 2006 PapaJohns.Com Pizza Bowl presents:

The Jose Gasparilla University Pirates vs East Carolina University Pirates.

Mr. Hauling Bull, you haven,t been in Florida longer than me and you are full of hauling Bull.

In the first place, Florida use to be sectioned into North Florida and South Florida. That was b ecause until the early 60's the power in the state legislature was in North Florida. The socalled southern part of the State [Which Tampa Bay was a part of] was getting the royal shaft.  That is the reason we dont have as good roadsz as say Jacksonville.

Then came redistricting and the Miami area started getting the majority of the monies. We are just now getting our fair share of the monies. So you see there is some hostilities with the Miami area besides the fact that they think that they are Florida.

The fact of the matter is that most people in the rest of Florida do not consider Miami as a part of real Florida.

IN fact, the first choice for the universaity was suppose to be The University of Southern Florida, which would have been more accurate. What happened was that Florida Southern College complained that the name was too close to theirs and would /could confuse others as to thier identity. Since it was the southern most university at the time and it is in what was known then as South Florida, it seemed fitting and proper at the time.

Who conducted the poll that is the source for your "fact"?  When did this take place.

I'll keep a truck on standby to haul your bull crap away.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
