The Fox segment to announce the BCS is a waste of airtime.  Terry was arguing about USC being ranked over UF because "they" want high TV ratings for the title game.  Yeah...the coaches, writers, and computers rank them that high for the game ratings.  Geez.

Seeing as Fox is showing all five BCS games, I'm sure they're very happy to have their employees tossing out conspiracy theories like that.

Jim,

They said last night on SportsCenter that only 2 per conference is still a rule. If that were to happen we'd see that rule change next year.

Wind, That year FSU made it over Miami they lost by a FG @ Miami, not by 26 points at home like ND to Michigan. Further Miami's fan base is 1/20th Michigan's size, don't think for one minute that if ND made that game over Michigan that the hundreds of thousands of fans wouldn't be revolting.

1/20th?  really?  5 national titles, all those NFL players, but no fan base?

and who exactly would they be revolting against?  and how?  would they destroy the state of michigan?

I'm sure they would deal with it.  Losing the last game of the season does not deserve a rematch against a team that just beat you.

1/20th was just an exaggeration, but the Miami fanbase is nowhere NEAR the Michigan fanbase.

Winbane, the Michigan Boosters are the largest booster society in the country with an estimated 250-300,000 members. They graduate 8-10,000 people a year through their undergrad and graduate programs. They fill their stadium with 112,000 people each Saturday.

Michigan/the Big 10 have a lot of say in the BCS/College Football. In fact, while the BCS was Roy Kramer's idea, The Big 10, specifically the presidents of Michigan and Ohio State, held teh idea hostage and refused to join. It wasn't until Michigan had to split their title in 1997 that Michigan finally agreed to the terms of the BCS and it's conditions.

There is no doubt it would be VERY bad for the BCS is Michigan gets left at home for ND.

Just saw Alvarez on the FOX NFL post game show.  He mentioned that all of the computer polls picked RU 2nd or 3rd.  He suggested that there was something suspect with the computer rankings.

The computer rankings are the most objective rankings out there, especially if all six agree, at the very least RU is not getting the respect they deserve.  I would counter his point and suggest that the other polls are flawed not giving RU enough credit.

Computers can't be biased, unlike the pollsters.  They are programmed to spit out whatever data is put in.  If the criteria that was put in was legit, then the computer ranking is legit.

Wind, you are kidding right ?  Michigan has a huge fan base.  Turn the lights on at Ann Arbor and they get 50,000 showing up.  doesnt even need to be a game played.  Miami doesn''t even sell out half the time.  I think Michigan has the highest attended home games in college football.  100k plus.  sell outs for many years.

Michigan has a 110K stadium and has had over 100K per game, every game for almost 30 years.

That's not 100% true.  The formulae in each ranking can be biased.  What factors do you include... how much do you weight each factor... et cetera...

Computers are objective, but that doesn't mean they are unbiased. I think maybe we are confusing the two words as meaning one in the same thing.

Saragin's rankings more than likely include variables that measure if the home team won, attendance, turn overs, sacks, total yards, total points for an against, and the like. There isn't any variables that captures "tradition" or "they won the championship last year" or "Oh, i saw Rutgers all over the news last night." It only measures the performance ON THE FIELD.

But, it does open up the topic up to a lot of debate as to what should be weighted or included in the equation.

Personally, I prefer the computer rankings to human rankings... but only if what goes into the equation is known to everyone. Of course, that's not the case.

Reason #431 why the BCS is flawed...

Rutgers is ranked ahead of Ohio State in 4 of 6 computer polls

Reason #124 that human polls are biased.  I bet you'll find that computer result VERY different after the michigan game.  What the computers do that human polls don't is ONLY look at what's occurred in a season so far.

OSU's best win to date?  2 loss texas.  Rutgers best win?  ONE loss Louisville.  Ohio State hasn't played a great amount of top notch teams that RU hasn't.  In fact, they skipped wisconsin entirely this year.  Who did they beat other than texas that's worth anything more than any of rutgers' non UL opponents?  Exactly.  Even if OSU looks better on the field, RU has won just as meaningful games.

ohhhh, well, then.  let the riots begin!

I don't think your info has ANY influence on the voters or computer stats, despite what Terry Bradshaw seems to believe.
