Really, a self-described super fan does not know how many years are left on CJL's contract?  You're kidding, right?

Jim Leavitt is to South Florida as Bobby Bowden is to FSU.

As many years as he wants.

Ty, that statement is overly optimistic. CJL does not have the leverage of a coach Bowden and like coach Cardieri might out run his cpability to move this program forward. There are some big weaknesses with CJL / coaching staff, talked about in many other posts already. He should have 2 more years to prove how successful he could be but after that it should be a year to year basis.

USF does not have the donation base that can support years of mediocre success. This is not to say going to a bowl in the first 10 years is not an accomplishment but one only has to look at how many schools go to bowls nowadays to realize how overated making a bowl really is. The bowl schedule should be cut in half because some of these games are pathetic and ony exist so Vegas can make money.

That is crazy. No matter who the coach is, you can't recruit without a multi year contract. No kid is going to a school when the coach is on shaky ground. At least no kid that is worth recruiting.

Bloom, CJL has a long term contract signed already. Not sure of the length and I really do not care because I can not change it. My post is in relationship to how CJL should be reviewed, 2 years of unbiased support from the university and then he should be judged by the standards of all other college coaches, not the Bowdens and JoePa's of the coaching fraternity. CJL is not in this class of coach. This is not a stay as long as you want deal with CJL because USF is not flush with athletic funding. The football program (flagship for fundraising) will face a time where CJL will be judged like the baseball team - remember there were supporters inside the athletic dept for Cardieri as well for too many years of poor performance. Football is not where baseball was with CEC but if it comes over the next 5 years, the football program will have to make changes at the top as well.

As for recruiting, CJL has not shown a capacity to be a top notch recruiter (IMO) to get into the 4 - 5 star recruits you are alluding to in our post.
