  1. I do not condone breaking the law but you can not watch sports of any kind if such a hard stance is taken - I can not think of a team or sport that does not have players that have broken the law. Just a fact of life nowadays, a lot of athletes have come from hard beginnings or are spoiled however both find it easier to break the law then to follow it.
  2. Velcro, yes USF got 21 out of 25 kids they wanted but do you think for one second they would not change places with any of the schools in the top 10.
  3. This class is the best class that has signed LOI's with USF in their history and now the only thing that we have to wait for is qualification. I see this a a very solid class but short of spectacular. Would like to see more kids with 4 or 5 stars (I know the argument about stars but the reality is that is how the nation grades recruiting classes) then 2 or lower stars but that is coming, imho. Lets keep up the progress and maybe next year USF will get a couple of Blue Chippers to go along with the recruits it signed this year. Momentum is building, hopefully we find a way to capitalize on it next year with an even better showing then this year.
  4. IMO... I would bet they have already been contacted by a lawyer and are not tipping their hand on their intentions until they see what the medical report has to say. Nothing wrong with the parents protecting their interests. If something could have been done to prevent this then the parents have every right to know. Monetary settlement will never return the loved one but sometimes good comes from bad. I agree with Smazza (not a lawyer): all athletes should have the best of tests performed to determine if they are susceptible to the "Hidden Killers". USF Medical School is one of the best in the South, why not let the students run the tests with the help of their teachers.
  5. Never was a fan of Rod Smith - so I am not sad to see him go. Do not know much about Frey and I am not sure a Graduate assistant should be promoted to a significant position at a Division 1 BCS school but he deserves a chance to prove CJL correct in his hiring. This will be a repititive event for our coaching staff untill Athletics comes up with more money to pay for their services. USF HAS TO STEP UP THE COACHING BUDGET TO KEEP UP WITH BCS SCHOOLS.
  6. I think this post started out with a good topic and as usual has morphed into something else. CJL and USF need the media and shutting them down makes no sense whatsoever. Maybe USF has beaten Lville and WVU but USF has also lost to Cincy and UCONN. USF is making its own way on the field and their have been more success stories this year then ever before but you would never know it if you read the papers. So few articles compared to what the other state schools received, that it has to hurt USF's recruiting. We can debate CJL's decision all day long but something has to change because USF needs help getting the word out about the program.
  7. Voss suffered a knee injury in the PO's and will have to sit at any BCS conference school, especially coming off knee injury that will take until the summer to get better.
  8. Edit: OOOps Garcia (not Marve) is going to South Carolina and Spurrier
  9. I would not want Jeff Bowden anywhere close to the Bulls but I can not take the the same play calling at the same points of every game that RS provides. Joe, have you considered that the Ville just knew what plays were coming and stopped them due to recognition of the game film. I can guess 60% of the plays that USF will run before they run them and I do not study game film by the day like college coaches do. There is no guessing involved by the defense and that is to big of a problem for this offense to overcome. Was the Ville a more talented team - YES, the same for Rutgers, but Cincy and KU were not more talented and their defenses looked like the steel curtain against the Bulls. When the D knows the play before it is run, they will stop any offense 100% of the time. IMHO, MG is the only reason this team has 7 wins and is eligible for a Bowl. CJL, RS, and WB have all been disappointing as coaches this year. RS has done nothing to remove the gimmick from his play calling. The Bulls do not have the depth or talent to make up for the amount of penalties they take on a weekly basis, and penalties exist because this teams breaks down mentally every game which is a diret result of game preparation / coaching.
  10. Spurrier has been questioned about being linked to the expected vacancy at the University of Miami. He denied that he has made a decision but did not deny that the job intrigued him. This is a quick way for UM to change course and get the most out of their offensive talent.
  11. I will say it over and over again, the only school in Florida that impresses me for their success is Miami. UF has won 1 championship in a 100 years of playing football. FSU has won 2 championships in their history (not sure how long they have been around and don't care enough to look) Miami has 5 championships in the last 25 years. I can only hope that USF wins a Championship in a shorter period then both UF and FSU, this way I may actually be alive to see it. Champioships are all that matter folks and UF has only won 1 more then USF.
  12. Does CJL deserve the right to be compared to Bowden / JoePa with regards to contract for life? That is what I responded to. I obviously do not agree with that assessment, if you do why? 6 more years - can be a lifetime if USF hovers around the middle of the pack in the BE and will do to the football program what it did to the baseball and basketball programs. USF does not have the luxury of time in the era of what have you done for me lately. The out of conference schedule needs to be upgraded.
  13. Bloom, CJL has a long term contract signed already. Not sure of the length and I really do not care because I can not change it. My post is in relationship to how CJL should be reviewed, 2 years of unbiased support from the university and then he should be judged by the standards of all other college coaches, not the Bowdens and JoePa's of the coaching fraternity. CJL is not in this class of coach. This is not a stay as long as you want deal with CJL because USF is not flush with athletic funding. The football program (flagship for fundraising) will face a time where CJL will be judged like the baseball team - remember there were supporters inside the athletic dept for Cardieri as well for too many years of poor performance. Football is not where baseball was with CEC but if it comes over the next 5 years, the football program will have to make changes at the top as well. As for recruiting, CJL has not shown a capacity to be a top notch recruiter (IMO) to get into the 4 - 5 star recruits you are alluding to in our post.
  14. Ty, that statement is overly optimistic. CJL does not have the leverage of a coach Bowden and like coach Cardieri might out run his cpability to move this program forward. There are some big weaknesses with CJL / coaching staff, talked about in many other posts already. He should have 2 more years to prove how successful he could be but after that it should be a year to year basis. USF does not have the donation base that can support years of mediocre success. This is not to say going to a bowl in the first 10 years is not an accomplishment but one only has to look at how many schools go to bowls nowadays to realize how overated making a bowl really is. The bowl schedule should be cut in half because some of these games are pathetic and ony exist so Vegas can make money.
  15. Mike, I do not bullieve you pay attention to your own posts and maybe that is clouding your judgement. If my memory serves me correctly, you are one of the more inflamatory posters on this board. My opinion might mirror Smazza on some topics but it is a choice I make to see the positive and negatives of the program - not just the positives. *** If I am wrong and have you confused wth another poster, I will be big enough to apologize.
  16. Ferdinand, if what I said is the most rediculous thing you have heard you must be new to the board. Booing PJ and pessimism are overrated topics on this board. What some people see as pessimism - others view as an honest assessment of the program. This argument will never die. Triple B, maybe you are in the KNOW for why Smazza was banned but I see childish posts complaining about Smazza all the time. I do not know Smazza other then his posts and do not always agree with his ability to post inflamatory responses but from what I have read over the past year some people have a lot more leeway then others. There are people that take this posting stuff to serious, get a freakin life - people are allowed to have their own opinion and share it on boards, it is the readers choice to ignore or respond.
  17. Every year they flub at least 1, some years they flub 2 and this year they flubbed 2 already (Cincy, Kansas). Hopefully they beat Cuse because I do not have a god feeling about Pitt and I see no hope against Lville or WVU. I hope to be wrong but I have not seen enough again this team to justify more faith.
  18. YES we are all fans, that is why we are participating in a USF board. As for the rest of theis thread, the poster I can relate with is Mid South and I agree with most everything said. Mike, everyone should stick to that policy not just Smazza. I often find it outright ridiculous how many negative threads that point to Smazza by the Mikes and ET.  I have said many times that the personal attacks are more frequent by those that choose to only see the positives of USF and only after the first attack do you see the personal attacks escalate like a wild fire. Funny thing is Smazza got banned but none of the posters that enter into pissing matches with him felt the same rath. The only thing I will say is out of the 4 (Smazza, Mike x 2, and ET) only Smazza chooses to look at USF with a pessimistic tone and his opinions are slanted to the negative.
  19. Cincy was the game I believed would make them eligible. I thought it would be tough but the Bulls were just outclassed in all aspects of the game, most importantly coaching. Pitt could take the pressure off of the Cuse game. They seem to be the better team at this point but home field could do a lot to help USF, hopefully the Bulls win this and then the Cuse game to finish 7-5. Syracuse will prove to be the game that matters most in the end. I think the Bulls will win but again will not be surprised if the pressure gets to the coaching staff and the players and we see a repeat of the Cincy game. Lville seems to have the Bulls in the heads and play their worst game of the year against them. Lets hope for a repeat but I see Lville playing in a BCS bowl. Would love to be able to recruit and replace players like Lville in the future because no team in the country has faced the amount of injuries to key players as Lville and they just keep on winning. WVU will win out and also play in a BCS bowl game.
  20. This brawl is not a knock out blow to Miami but Coker might be doing his best to ruin the Mighty U. Bring back Davis and all this gets forgotten because the same parents that made the comments will have forgotten in 5 months. When the new coach comes calling and gets the fantasy going about seeing their kid in the pros by pointing out how many kids from Miami have been chosen in the first round in the last decade, parents see $$$ signs. The fights are ridiculous but they are not always started by Miami and in the heat of the game tempers flare and things get ot of control. NOT AN EXCUSE but I saw many people justifying smoking pot on this board not too long ago. I see FSU and UF taking the same cheap shots, late hits, jumping around etc as Miami but Miami will always have the target on their back because they came so far so fast to win 5 CHAMPIONSHIPS. If I had the choice to mirrora football program in the state of FL, it would be MIAMI not FSU of UF.
  21. Bane, positive is not a bad thing but my concern is USF always seems to have a UCON game every year. Look back at their prior seasons and they always have a let down game. Can they compete yes, but as USF gets better so does PITT, L'Ville, WVU, RU, Cuse, etc. It will never be easier then USF had last year to win the BE because USF beat Lville (one of the programs I see ahead of USF), and the other programs were still rebuilding and coming off of program lows. I see a storm brewing because imo the more established schools in the BE have also out recruited us the last 2 years (per scout and rivals). I want to bullieve you are right nd I am proven wrong!!
  22. OK guys, I saw the same message numerous times, PJ is helping Matt, I get it. That is wonderful and in reality what he should be doing since he is on scholly and owned by USF (according to the NCAA). I agree with everyone that booing him when he came in to replace an injured MG is over the top and not productive. The reality is he is not a good QB and fans are frustrated with USF and PJ (I know I am) that he is the best alternative USF has to offer. I booed him at the start of the McNeese St game and my excitement when he left was due to the frustrtion that exists with CJL and his inability to make a necessary change when it was so obvious to some of us. I was not at the UCON game so I cannot comment about how it sounded in the stadium but the booing was not noticeable on TV.
  23. Wind, stop being overly positive and it really does not matter if you are nice or not, you are entitled to your opinion. How can you overlook the failure to beat a dormat team like UCONN? Beat UCONN and we are having a discussion about competing for a BE Championship however as reality played out it lost that game and was eliminated from a chance to compete for the BE championship.
  24. B, I am not passing booing off as anything, it is what it is - a sign of displeasure nothing more nothing less. The personal attacks, most of the time are unprovoked and a sign of a discussion going against ones own ability to sway the other poster to see their side. So just like an 8 year old would do, they say something demeaning to startle the other poster and hijack the thread from its original intent.
  25. ET, everyone here is a fellow Bull and cares about USF, some choose to show it with a blind side for the optimist while others for the pessimist. Posters here take things way to personal and the name calling and ridicule is the proof. Personal attacks are far more offensive then booing but that does not seem to bother the fans in this thread who argue against booing. There are plenty of personal vendettas on the boards and I am glad because it makes for better reading then when everyone agrees. Go BULLS!
