  1. That's awesome. I guess the OCS would have it all, and no reason to complain. I wouldn't mind if we just made something small (but nice), with room for expansion. Most stadiums expand over a given time when the program grows. Bigger isn't always better. Look at the MLB parks in SF and Pittsburgh. Both are relatively small parks, but are very intimate. I'd love something like that at USF, for the time being, with capabilities of expanding.
  2. Guys, this is apples and oranges. Grothe plays for USF with not as great of a supporting cast-- HOWEVER, he plays in the Big East, arguably the worst BCS conference. Tebow has an amazing supporting cast, but plays in the SEC, arguably the best BCS conference. If Tebow doesn't put up the same numbers as Grothe, it's not because he isnt as talented. He's facing teams like Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, and Georgia every week. Grothe has played KU, RU, FIU, McNease St., UCF. Under the assumption that we could hop back into our time machine and HAD TO PICK between Grothe or Tebow as a recruit, I think you'd be foolish to not pick the #1 overall recruit in the nation.
  3. Dear GOD.. I was trying to forget the Army homecoming game a few years back :-/ Anyways, the way I see it, USF loses games like these (a.k.a. "chokes") too often and it's NOT because of lack of talent. We had the talent to beat UCONN last year and Army, but that falls on the coaches. I can't blame the program for losing to WVU last year or Penn State, but someone deserves the blame for the Army and UCONN losses. Even with Julmiste, we should have beaten these teams. This is where Leavitt's playcalling and preparation comes into question. Another cliche arguement is that a lot of people on this message board use the excuse after losses that, "We beat ourselves." Well, a lot of that is due to our team not being prepared, and that falls on the coaching staff as well.
  4. Would the loyalty that you refer to be that of Rod Smith? Just curious. Based on what you've said, I question his in-week coaching specifically for the penalties that we have. For instance, we get a lot of technique penalties like facemasks and pass interferences. We also get a lot of holds. As compared to formation penalties like offsides, false starts, # of men on the line of scrimmage, etc. The discipline is also a big reason why I question Leavitt, especially with all of our off the field problems. It seems as if the inmates are running the assylum.
  5. I'd give it till Grothe's Junior or Senior season. By then, I hope we establish a run game because Matt can't do it himself.
  6. I was watching ESPNU and they were interviewing RU coach Greg Schiano and he was asked about recruiting and his relationship with Florida schools. I don't want to quote, but he said that the base of RU recruits is still the northeast, but he collects a good share of recruits from Florida. He also said that there is such a fine line between the recruiting classes of programs within the Big East. More importantly, he said that the recruiting rankings are a bit overrated, and that most people tend to forget that Recruiting and Coaching go hand-in-hand. You can't recruit studs and have poor coaching techniques and vice versa. However, Schiano cited programs like VaTech and WVU, who have slightly above average recruiting bases, but coach their programs up to elite status. I thought this was pretty interesting. I hear a lot of clamoring on this board about how good/bad Leavitt recruits and that he's located in the state of Florida. However, we dont have to look very far to see that recruiting isn't end-all be-all of a program (FSU and UM have had good recruiting classes, both are unranked). Do you guys think Leavitt's coaching is on par with his recruiting? I think he's doing a fine job recruiting (nothing spectacular, but adequate), but I still question his coaching strategies.
  7. We aren't at the level of dominance that Miami was at, so you really can't compare the two. Same goes for USC right now. Would Tebow end up at UF if Chris Leak was a RS Freshman? When you're the caliber of these programs with a proven system of getting your recruits into the NFL, then people will be lining up at your door, despite the fact that they'll only play 2 years. When you're playing for a dominant program like UM of the 80's, FSU of the 90's, and USC of the 2000's, 2 years is all you need. Our program isnt "cranking out one NFL QB after another", so you wont see recruits lining up at our doorstep. Instead, you'll see a recruit off to other programs where they can see immediate playing time.
  8. They should, but the don't a lot of times. Let's face it-- if a recruit has the opportunity to step in immediately and become the starter and there's not apparent danger in losing PT to someone already there, they're gonna take it. As harsh as smazza sounds, we all have to accept this reality. Think about it this way: you know you've got a good QB on your hands if recruits will shy away from your program for at least 2 years. I think Voss would be more of a "sure thing" as far as a commitment if Julmiste was still our QB rather than Grothe.
  9. He's proven way more so far because he doesn't have Chris Leak (another blue chip QB) breathing down his neck. I'll take Tim Tebow in a heartbeat over Grothe. In fact, I'd take any of the big 4 last year (Tebow, Mustain, Snead, Stafford) over Grothe, despite how they look right now. Granted, Grothe has looked good, but aside from Rutgers, who have we played?
  10. Kazbor's closed down. That place was pretty terrible. It was like a Village Inn atmosphere, but serving Chili's-type food. There is a new Po Boys in that Albertson's plaza, which kinda gets busy during gamedays. It's really the only place for south Brandon/Valrico people to go, aside from BW3's... I went to BW3's off fishhawk on saturday, and a LOT of noles fans were out. I went to BW3's close to the mall for Separation Saturday, and it seemed like a lot of gator fans.. but i was told that it is an Ohio State bar, with people parked outside with OSU flags, etc. Don't go to MJ Barleyhoppers. It doesnt seem like much of a sports bar type place. I've always been interested in watching a game at O'Brien's on Lumsden and Kings. I've been to the one on Dale Mabry to drink and would imagine it to be a good sports bar in brandon.
  11. I drove from Nome, Alaska for the McNease St. game. As you can imagine, I'm not doing it again.
  12. "Bu-bu-bu-but... we should give Julmiste another shot!" - crazy USF fans on this message board before the season began
  13. ;D That's a hoot. You know, it may say that somewhere on some document, but you've got to be pretty naive to believe that is REALLY the case. The Glazers get BOATLOADS of money from the USF home games (parking, concessions, up-front cash, etc.). So yeah, it's pretty much the Glazers' stadium that the community pays for. They really took the city of Tampa for a ride. Seriously. Their stadium, their rules. Until we get our own, we gotta stop complaining about how someone else runs their house.
  14. Yes, it sucks... but there is nothing we can do. We can argue with the Glazers, and then what? Get evicted? We gotta play by their rules until we get a house of our own to make up the rules.
  15. I couldn't help but bring up the hypocrisy in complaining about the security at the games. The reason being: it's not our property. I've been reading threads on here about how much people LOVE being in RJS, and that we dont need our own on-campus stadium, but with all the amenities of an NFL stadium comes the politics of playing in a stadium that isn't ours. I guess most of the fans on this message board can't seem to remember that when they are quick to shoot down any notion of an on-campus stadium. This thread isn't created to start an on-campus stadium debate. But to keep whining about not being able to stand at games and having TSA cops trying to pacify crowds is moot. We have no control over these authorities, and it's part of the deal we accepted by playing in Glazer's house. We are renting out someone else's property-- and by that, we abide by their rules. Until we get our own stadium with our own cops, there really is nothing we can do about it. Yes, it sucks, but this is what we signed up for, regardless of if we didn't read the fine print. Just lean back in that chairback that you so desperately exclaimed about, and cheer on with your beer in that drink holder that you demanded when you signed up to play in RJS. Take the good with the bad and enjoy.
