Benzer was an all-state selection.  He made 6? 50 yarders his Junior and Senior year.

....so safe to assume that there's a huge difference between the talent that qualifies one for "all state" in HS compared to college..even at the kicking positions? Or, like golf, something got into his head and just can't shake it.  Are we sure there's not a couple of more Gramatticas running around out there?  :o

he has a good leg-- but he can't get it through the pipes

it's a kicker thing-- the job isn't easy if you have any doubt in your mind. His performance at Penn State really got him off to a bad start and he never really recovered after that. Maybe he never had it -- Alvarado seems like he does so we'll see.

It has to be something in his head.  He has a big leg and from what I understand he hits everything from everywhere in practice during the week.

maybe if usf had a real special teams coach it would help

it is a bit scary when your position coach is also head coach

Was our kicking game that good the last 3-4 years?

We haven't had a kicking game in years.  The only reason we had one at all was because the Gramaticas lived so close by, not because we had become Kicker-U.  Hence, with the Gramaticas done, we are again struggling.

This is just another trap thread some are falling in to for smazza.

Even Santiago struggled quite a bit.  Outside of Bill Gramatica, it hasn't been that great.  Riggs in '97 was pretty good, I'm amazed we didn't attract the state's best after him (lol).  Must be because our head coach is also our special teams coach and Mr. Mazza thinks our head coach should go.

Transparent.  Come on fellas.
