TyBull Posted August 30, 2006 Group: Member Topic Count: 2,696 Content Count: 6,928 Reputation: 127 Days Won: 0 Joined: 11/01/2002 Share Posted August 30, 2006 Lakeland Ledger writer Patrick Zier came specifically to speak to Leavitt and Grothe, a Lakeland Lake Gibson product. Zier managed two questions: "Have you named a starting quarterback yet?" "No." "Will both kids play this Saturday?" "Uh, unsure. Unsure." "I think Jim's missing an opportunity to promote this program," said Zier, who has worked at the Ledger for 30 years. "He wants to bring the program up to the level of Florida, Florida State and Miami, but when he limits access and things like that, I think it makes it tougher for him to do that." CJL is the Head Coach. CJL is the man. BUT, we in Polk County have been e-mailing Zier and R. Brown of the Lakeland Ledger and really trying to get more USF coverage in the Ledger. I think that this hurts. The Ledger seems to have more ucf coverage in their newspaper. That makes me crazy. The Ledger is 22 miles from the USF campus and USF has a regional campus in Polk. The Ledger always seems to cover the Big "3"....... I think that yesterdays actions by CJL just reinforces the Ledgers argument that USF is not worth the space in the paper. AAARRGGGHHHH.......I will keep e-mailing the Ledger........

I used to attend press conferences and upload the audio to SouthFloridaBulls.com and had one of our members assisting with it last year even. When CJL is on, he provides a pretty good press conference. I think we were all looking forward to seeing him. The Press Pass also has live video coverage for other events like mens soccer, womens volleyball, so there is a lot packed into the package. With or without the football press conferences, it is a powerful tool for both USF and the fans. I'm glad to see USF go in this direction. Now for the party line, do those really cost that much? Zero facts or insider information is known.I don't agree with how CJL is treating the media. But I'm not foolish enuff to not know he's got something up his sleeve. He's motivating is team some how or he has some issues in his personal life the causing him to act this way or he wants any attention away from the team. Kinda puzzling really. :-? Or the media that Coker had at the Fiesta Bowl in 2002.Coaches are going to get questions from reporters...it's natural.Show me some examples where media in those markets pulled what certain media in this market pulled this week .... and then show me how those coaches handled it. The whole Ryan Moore debacle has happened this week in Miami. It started as the media stayoing 3rd drug test...turns out he hit some girl in a bar. What about the Ron Zook Fraternity fight? I don't think that story is straight yet...Did he cuss at the frat boys? etc. What about the 7th Floor Gang rap cd at Miami? The Adrian McPherson check scandel at FSU? Started as a mysterious suspension that turned into the Tallahassee Democrat smoking out that the kid had "stolen" checks from a pawn shop.It happens EVERYWHERE. You'll notice all those instances involved stuff OUTSIDE the team. CJL didn't pull this with the B Fisher stuff or the others that involved public record or public involvement. The stuff that came out this week was all IN HOUSE, supposedly. There may be examples like this out there, I'd just like to see how other coaches handled them.
