I forgot, my wife has 2 USF degrees also.

somewhere in the 90s, like 93-95 she got a BS in Religious Studies

Then a few years back (like 02-03) she got her Masters of Library Science.

95 BS Accounting..................USF

02 MAcc Accounting..............USF

06..? PhD Accounting............USF

The last one was a mistake. They wont hire their own graduates.

BS in MIS.

However, before coolin' my jets on Fowler Ave, I

did spend some time "overseas"....

International Studies is an interesting program,

but you aren't going to put any bread on the table

with it, atleast not right away.

I'm an international studies major, but it applies

to my current job.  If I were fresh out of high

school....dont think I would do international

studies.  There arent many "mainstream" jobs to

which that degree applies.

If you're gainfully employed at the extreme southern tip of Dale Mabry...Int'l Studies may be a good deal. Or you could head up to DC (State Department, Dept. of Commerce, CIA, etc.). But I don't know that you wouldn't necessarily be looking at a MS unless you've tuned your resume (really hip internship or foreign studies stamp).

So why do we go to college? Why do we pick our majors the way we do? For me...at the age of 30, it was all bidness. Degree = job.  If I could turn back the hands of time - tweak the space time continuum - I would have majored in something I found more interesting. However, MIS does pay the bills.

I was a helicopter mechanic in the Military.  The pay for civilian helicopter mechanics is pretty good, but I want to move away from the blue collar work.  It was more of a hobbie for me while I was in college.

There are scholorships available through organizations like the Rotary Club for further education if you want to keep in the international studies realm.  Unfortunately they are real competetive.

Would you consider engineering?  USF has a very good school.  They also have a lot of evening and internet courses available to accomodate a work schedule.

If you have a "blue collar" background as a mechanic, it might give you a unique "real world" perspective most engineering graduates lack.
