Going strictly off memory here....and bow scores....so correct me if I'm wrong....

1995- Nebraska (Best backfield in CFB history)

Wasnt that game 16-15? Or some stupid score like that?

Both team's defense was STRONG in that game, and all year.

1996- Florida

Wasnt that the 52-20 game?

Florida's DEFENSE made FSU look stupid, and caused a bunch of turnovers.....I think.

1997 - Nebraska/Michigan

I forgot.

1998 - Tennessee

Probably the ugliest championship game in recent memory. Tee Martin vs Marcus Outzen

23-16.

If you look at Tennessee's games throughout that year, they had a killer running game (Jamal Lewis AND Travis Stephens) and a killer DEFENSE.

1999 - FSU

I'll give you this one.

2001- Miami

Nebraska ROLLED everyone they played......and Miami's defense held them to 14 pts.

2003- LSU (defense was strong, but their offense ran all over Oklahoma's D)

21-14 LSU

Defensive struggle for the entire game.

2004 - USC (55-10 nuff said)

You focus on the 55, I'll focus on the 10.

2005 - Texas (Vince Young)

Texas' defense had to get the ball back to Vince Young. Yeah, he did everything in that game, but Texas' defense outplayed USC's.

Bottom line is if I had my choice of a strong D and mediocre O as opposed to the other way around, I'll take the defense.

It's been proven, in any sport, in any year.

95 NE scored 62 points on more than 600 yards of total offense in the national title game. Yes the NE D played well, but 600 yards total offense definitly shows an offensive advantage.

1996 Florida racked up about 500 yards

1998 Tennessee had over 400 yards on the great "FSU" defense including 198 from Peerless Price

2001 NE - Do you not remember the Colorado game? Nebraska got ROLLED. The Miami Offense threw all over NE.

2004 USC - I'll Focus on the 535 USC put up on "the greatest defense ever" USC gave up almost 400 yards (that should be 55-19 i hit 0 by accident)

2005 - Texas's D was sooooo awesome they gave up 574. They did make the big play down the stretch, but USC was scoring at will.

I'm not a big stats geek, but I am a HUGE college football fan. It's proven in CFB that a great offense can out work a great defense. I think we saw that in all the BCS games this year. WVU's defense was getting scored on at will after the 1st quarter, but they were about to score back. Ohio State was able to drive on ND at will. Texas over USC in an offensive showcase. (PSU /FSU was a defensive showcase, but neither had great offenses through the season)
