Would you care to explain how the Buc's managed to lose 26 straight games despite having a very good defense?

Please confine your inexpertise to Bulls football. The 77 Bucs defense was decent at best and the 76 Buc D was HORRIBLE ....

I guess you miss the part that they had BOTH those quaterbacks vs USF this year and it didnt help them much in that game.

Gee and they will also have both Brian Brohm and Chris Caldwell back at quarterback.  Two very talented,  game proven QB's...something USF fans can only dream of.

MAJOR difference between NFL and College game. Defenses in college are nice to have, but college shows time in and out that offense is the strongest part of the game. Whereas in the NFL where teams are much more evenly matched week in and out, you NEED a strong Defense to be the team to beat.

I'm not saying you don't need a defense, but look at what ND did this season with what could be considered one of the worst defenses in the nation. Take out the 2000 Oklahoma Sooners and 2002 Ohio State teams, and the offenses on the last 10 national champs clearly outweigh the defenses as part of the equation.

1995- Nebraska (Best backfield in CFB history)

1996- Florida

1997 - Nebraska/Michigan

1998 - Tennessee

1999 - FSU

2001- Miami

2003- LSU (defense was strong, but their offense ran all over Oklahoma's D)

2004 - USC (55-10 nuff said)

2005 - Texas (Vince Young)

I'm not saying defense isn't an important part of the equation, but the college game much like the high school game is more about putting points on the board than defense.

One game does not a season make.

Joe gonna disagree about the D's 100% and on the 1994 NE backfield.  NE D's in their 3 out of 4 yrs with a NC had dominating D's.  There are several NFLr's playing D that were on the '93 & '94 NE Blackshirts D.  On the second point, Turner Gill & Mike Rozier '83 and Eric Crouch and Ahmad Green '99 could be considered better backfields than Frazier and Bonehead Lawrence What's His Name.  And Auburns backfield in '04 had all three (2RBs & QB) drafted into the NFL in the first round.  The RBs were top 10 draft picks.  IMO, Ahmad Green and Crouch could pulled a Lienart & Bush if Green would not have bolted to the NFL early.

NE D was suffocating without a doubt the best in the country those years, but that rushing attack was out of contol. ( I was at the Fiesta Bowl in 1995) That NE was the best team I have EVER seen play. I feel the ball control that the NE offense played helped the defense rest and become such a great attacking D. My opinion, I could be way offbase.

The backfield in 1995 in the Wing T was Frazier, Lawrence Phillips (GREAT college player no matter how many laws he broke), Ahmad Green, and Corey Schlinger (One of the best FBs in the NFL in his prime).

Lawrence Phillips let his legal issues come between him and his ability to be a good NFL back.

However I agree the 83 NE backfield was probably good (I'm biased because I was 3 then) and the 99 backfield with Crouch was good too. Auburns was incredible last year also.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
