I liked the kid, was a role player that did his job, he would have stayed if he could IMO had it not been for this silly 5th year grad transfer rule. Why can’t they play their grad year at the school they are at?  The system is so ****** up anyways so what does it matter.

Is that true?

Sam will probably bring the team GPA up a full half point.

To my knowledge, there is no rule saying they have to transfer. Most players transfer for a variety of reasons. It could be for more money, to be closer to home, for more playing time, to be in a specific graduate program, etc. In Miguel's case, perhaps his cousin told him that Maryland wanted him and was willing to pay him a number he couldn't refuse. I think I read an article that said that Mama Dembele (women's BB) wanted a career in medicine and that she would be in USF's MS medical science program. Placer had the option to stay where he was but wanted to play for CAAR.

I liked Hines too! I just read on his LinkedIn profile that he has aspirations to play professionally. He probably felt that he needed to be in a program where he would get more minutes and an opportunity to showcase his skills.

Makes sense, thanks for the info, a bit of a head scratcher however his pursuit of more minutes is understandable.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
