Did we mess up Memphis basketball that bad?

Memphis definitely has an ego issue. A ton of really talented individuals possibly blaming each other (and the coach) in the locker room after each game. Face some adversity? Blame game central.

Memphis made an AAU coach their head coach and he brought along the AAU/travel ball mentality. So as it is, he recruits very well, but their play as a team continues to underwhelm.

None of those teams is currently ranked or receiving votes. And in between those 4 wins, they lost to unranked Villanova and Ole Miss.

This is why I think rankings should come out after the season starts. Before I said end of November, but I am thinking week before Christmas now. This is due to the fact that not many games are played in November against quality teams.

The rankings don't matter though. I would get it if they doled out tournament spots based upon the rankings, but they don't. It helps TV sell "big" games.

Memphis just looks like a totally different team since we beat them.  When I watched them early on they looked tough and it is hard to believe they went into such a tailspin but, when we played, it was two teams moving in very different season trajectories.
