Alabama - Redshirt sophomore Jalen Milroe has the most experience after backing Young up last season and seeing some intense game action after Young went down with an injury. Milroe has special ability with his legs, which adds an extra element to his game, but had trouble holding on to the ball last season. Redshirt freshman Ty Simpson also has a year in the program under his belt, but didn't see much action in his freshman season.

Rice - QB JT Daniels year No. 6, team No. 4, and maybe this year's Group of Five breakout candidate. Initially the No. 1 quarterback recruit coming out of Mater Dei High School in 2019, Daniels reclassified and shined as a freshman at USC, throwing for 2,672 yards and 14 touchdowns. He would have retained the starting job for the Trojans, but a torn ACL opened the door for Kedon Slovis to take over. He replaced Stetson Bennett at Georgia midway through the 2020 campaign and led the Bulldogs to a Peach Bowl victory over Cincinnati. Competing with Bennett in the offseason, Kirby Smart named Daniels the starter for the season opener against Clemson in 2021. After a 3-0 start, Daniels was sidelined due to an oblique injury, opening the door again for Bennett.

Navy – Senior Tai Lavatai.

UAB – Redshirt Junior - Jacob Zeno has the most experience of any quarterback on the roster and should fend off any challenges to the starting position during fall camp. The redshirt junior transferred in from Baylor last season and took over for an injured Dylan Hopkins at Western Kentucky and went 0-2 as the starter against FAU and UTSA. He passed for 721 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions and efficiently led the UAB offense despite three straight one-possession losses.

FAU – Senior(transfer) – Casey Thompson - He previously played college football for Texas( with Herman) and Nebraska. Career 29 games, 358 of 564 passing for 47 TD’s and 19 Int’s. with a 156.2 rating.

UConn - UConn loses starting QB Joe Fagnano (shoulder) for season. Ta'Quan Roberson to start. Roberson was 19-for-30 passing for 216 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in his first appearance since injuring his right knee in last year's opener at Utah State.

Memphis – Junior - Seth Henigan is on most QB award watch lists. As a true freshman in 2021, Henigan won the starting quarterback job at Memphis. He became the first true freshman to start a season opener in the history of the Memphis football program. In his second collegiate game, he threw for 417 yards and five touchdowns against Arkansas State and was named National Player of the Week. He finished the 2021 regular season with 3,322 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. As a sophomore in 2022, he has tallied 2,782 passing yards through games played on November 12, 2022. He led the Tigers to a victory in the 2022 First Responder Bowl and was named MVP of the game.

Temple – Sophomore -  E.J. Warner(Kurt Warner’s kid) –  2023: Added to Mawell award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm watchlists prior to the season. In 2022 was the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year ... named Pro Football Networks Newcomer of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year ... also named to the All-Freshman Team by College Football News, Pro Football Focus.  They also have a short yardage QB that’s 6-3/240.

UTSA - Record-setting UTSA QB Frank Harris to return for 7th season. Coach Jeff Traylor lobbied his fans to ante up the name, image and likeness money to keep Harris in San Antonio after the C-USA title game. Harris redshirted in his first season in 2017, missed all of 2018 with an injury then was limited to four games the next season after suffering another season-ending injury. After both the redshirt and medical redshirts, he is eligible for a seventh season due to the COVID waiver granted to players by the NCAA. He is responsible for more than 10,000 yards of total offense at UTSA.

Charlotte – Senior – Jalon Jones - 2023 -21 of 34 for 241yds 2ts’s and 3 int’s. QBR 29.1

Pretty young... why I don't think this team is Bowling this year unless he grows tremendously as a qb.

He is young and going to have good and bad games...just how it is with a young qb.

But he has a ton of upside.

HE needs  to improve , the offensive line drastically needs to improve, receivers need to run better routes, and players got to catch more balls that hit their hands. . I don't see any QB lasting a  full season behind that offensive line .  He is 18 and was carrying the whole offense last week. Do you remember seeing Flowers at 18?

Why I think if coaches handle Brown well he has so much upside.

Going to be very tough to improve vs Bama but after that game the defenses will get easier they go against.

Yes he is definitely one of the youngest starters in all of CFB. We have kicked this around a few times. It seems most successful teams we face have an older established QB or they brought in a senior/grad transfer QB. This is what CJS tried to do to save his job.

We have to build the entire team around him at this point. Think about this guy sticking around through his senior year. How valuable will all that game experience be? We haven't had that in i who the **** knows how long (i know QF... but that seems soooo long ago).

It's hard to remember on game day when we are fired up but he is pretty **** good for a RS freshman all things considered.

That was kinda my point when I made the post. Funny thing is that Bama’s complaining that their QB is an “int machine” but his backups are both freshmen. I think.

Of course he could probably just hand the ball off every play this week.

Definitely a great write up. It will be interesting to see if Traylor has a QB with experience ready to go behind this guy next year. To me that is the sign of a good coach/program. Have a recruited QB that has been learning the system ready to go when the veteran departs. If you need to bring in transfers as starters, you have failed as a coach (established coaches). Bama has this with Milroe even if they are complaining.

Big part of why this program has foundered is after Flowers we didn't have a young  qb ready to take the helm.  And when we do have a young qb they don't get developed see McCloud and McClain or we bring in a transfer and they bolt.

Hopefully we stick with Brown and he stays and Carter soaks it up and is ready to rock and roll as a red shirt junior in a perfect world.

Stability at qb is huge for a programs succes.

It's going to be real tough in this new world of college football. Look at the teams we're playing early in the season and how many have home grown qb's. I think the days of grooming qb's from the start and having one waiting for succession, at least at our level, are in the past ....... hopefully we can buck the trend.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
