Added SR Guard Jose Placer from north Florida 6’1 174. 14.6 pts per game, 36.6 three point shooter. Had 33 points vs Kennesaw State with 10 three pointers

This is where we are - third-team all conference PG in the A-SUN.  🙂

His PG at Kennesaw was second team, but I guess he wants to stay at Kennesaw instead of joining our mess.

UNF played a handful of “name” programs last year - Gonzaga, Houston, Washington, Kentucky, Pitt. In those games, Placer shot 4-24 from three. Sounds more like our kind of guy.

Don’t think this guy is coming to start, but we will see. I mean this guy basically is building from scratch and needs starters and bench, and not like he has much to sell at USF other than sunshine and playing time. Our record as a basketball program is pretty dismal. If this guy is to work out here, he is going to have to start from zero.

Two other notes: Anthony Robinson is out and now committed to Virginia, but Russ Tchewa may return. Totally fine with Robinson leaving. He won’t get off the bench at UVA. There’s just not much to his game from what I’ve seen on video. He outsized the high school competition he played and just dunked on smaller guys.

Can’t blame the kid, if I have a chance to go play at Virginia or USF, that’s a no brainer.

He may get a few minutes playing defense because of his size, but otherwise he won’t get off the bench at UVA. They can have him. His game right now is very limited. Tobiloba is basically the same kid at this point. It’ll all be about development with both.

Agree. He will probably be in TF in a year or two. Absolutely agree if we are going anywhere with the new Coach, he will have to develop players and if he wins we can then attract higher rated kids. But right now our basketball program is a big 💩

Yes, it is. Just like our football and baseball programs.

I think it’s even worse. At least football and baseball we are in talent rich areas so a good coach can build a team. Florida doesn’t have as much basketball talent, and those it does produce usually leave the state

Maybe not. If he can convince Tchewa to return, we’re not looking terrible. Miguel, Walker, Hines, Youngblood, Stroud, Tchewa is decent nucleus. Need to add Kobe Knox to that and fill in around it.

We have to start signing some of that Florida talent out of high school that leaves for programs like ours - the PG who went to Siena (McCollum), Knox, etc. Guys like LaQuincy Rideau. They’re out there. Our previous staff never found them.
