Kerkering will go tomorrow somewhere in the 4-7 round range (probably on the latter end, if I were a betting man).

Luis Rujano, Ben Brutti, and Zachary Showalter will all be drafted 3-10 as well. That's the 70/30 area of whether they'll ever see the campus.

Most of our other major signings are 10+ round picks, or not at all, because the team who'd think of drafting them knows the money will be tough to sway them from college. Once you get into that part of the draft, it is a crapshoot. We've had a few guys drafted in the teens the last few years that turned it down. Chatfield, Zech, etc.

I left Snow off that list. He's going to get drafted in the 5-10 range, too.

He's not on anyone's draft stuff I've seen and he's a RS So with tons of leverage. I can't imagine him going high enough this year to make him not want to come back next year and put this season behind him. Let's say he's on the board and someone is thinking of taking him 20th round or so (no idea if that's even accurate for him, just throwing a round out), that could be worth $50k-$100k. But, if he comes back and jumps 5-10 rounds, he could double or triple the money.

Weird draft. Lots of guys going above projections and a ton of highly rated HS kids still on the board.

Kerkering drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies

KERKERING DRAFTED BY THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

TAMPA (July 18, 2022) – University of South Florida right-handed pitcher Orion Kerkering (Venice) was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon. Kerkering was drafted with the 152nd overall pick.

Kerkering becomes the 128th player drafted out of the University of South Florida. He joins RHP Carson Ragsdale, who was drafted out of USF in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, in the Phillies organization.Kerk draft graphic

In 129.2 IP over three seasons at South Florida, Kerkering totaled 167 strikeouts. In 2022, his 91 punchouts over 67.2 IP ranked third in the American Athletic Conference and he led the league in batters struck out looking (32). Kerkering ranked 32nd in the NCAA this season in strikeouts/9-innings pitched (12.10) and 56th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.79), while issuing only 19 free passes.

A dominant closer during the Bulls' 2021 historic postseason run, Kerkering split time between the bullpen and starting rotation in 2022. Kerkering went 5-3 with five saves, a 2.88 ERA and 62 strikeouts over 50.0 IP while limiting opponents to a .205 batting average in 2021. He was the winning pitcher for USF in the Gainesville Regional championship that season against South Alabama which punched the Bulls' ticket to the program's first-ever Super Regional.

Kerkering struck out at least eight batters in five of his 10 starts in 2022, including a career-high 10 strikeouts against Brown on March 6th. He was named the AAC Pitcher of the Week following an eight-strikeout performance when he allowed one run on two hits with zero walks over a career-high 7.0 IP against Niagara on March 25th.

Over 52 career appearances (11 starts) at USF, Kekering owned a 10-11 record with nine saves and 4.79 ERA.

I don't understand any of these eligibility years anymore, but the MLB Draft Tracker has him as:

I hope he does come back and can get/stay healthy,

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
