GAME DAY vs. Houston

USF returns to Raymond James Stadium for a two-game homestand against the two top teams in the American Athletic Conference as No. 2 Cincinnati (8-0) and No. 20 Houston (7-1) come to Tampa. The Bulls have not downed a ranked foe in almost exactly five years, since an Oct. 28, 2016 defeat of No. 22 Navy. The Bulls begin the stand with a homecoming clash vs. Houston, which has won five straight vs. the Bulls. USF is 14-10 in homecoming games and has won five of its last six, but lost its last homecoming outing, 44-24, to ECU in 2020.

RUN GAME ROLIN’: USF has run for 620 yards and a 6.0 yards per carry average in its last two games, posting a program-record 421 vs. Temple and 199 at ECU as Kelley Joiner Jr. posted 100-yard outings in both games (126 & 103) and Jaren Mangham posted a career-best 152 vs. Temple and 67 at ECU.

THIRD TOP 20 FOE: USF will be facing its third Top 20 ranked opponent of the season in No. 20 Houston and is on pace to face four on the year with No. 2 Cincinnati looming next week. Three Top 20 opponents faced equals the most USF has played in a season since joining The American – also doing so in 2019 (#19, 17, 18) and 2013 (#15, 16, 17). Four would mark USF’s most since facing five in 2009 (#18, 8, 20, 20 & 19).USF is 11-32 all-time vs. FBS ranked opponents, with its last win coming on Oct. 28, 2016 in a 52-45 victory over No. 22 Navy in Tampa. The Bulls have lost their last 10 matchups with ranked foes, including vs. 13 Florida (42-20) and at No. 15 BYU (35-27) this season. The Bulls are 7-16 at home vs. ranked foes. USF has not beaten a Top 20 ranked opponent since a 23-20 victory at No. 16 Notre Dame in 2011 and have lost 17 straight Top 20 matchups.

I listened to the first hour and 15 minutes of the pregame. Now I’m outside setting up the TV, the grill and the fire pit. Still checking in and will be settled in for the game.
