Stanford and cal will get to the acc. Smu will probably get in as well offering to take no tv money.

We should offer the same or we'll be stuck in the sun Belt forever.

I am out of poo emojis :(

That's the thing, it's a terrible precedent that SMU will be establishing.  What will a new member give up?

Long term they will make more money. Its a precedent if I am an institution that I would be willing to take.

I am not sure long term is guaranteed with everything collapsing.

The Big 12 is saying they are done with expansion, but if OSU and WSU are sitting out there by themselves, it still wouldn't shock me to see the B12 turn around and invite them to go to 18.

There would be value to all the conferences if the Pac-12 just ceased to be. No more auto bid for football or basketball. Not sure what happens to all the Pac-12 tourney credits.

I don't know since if that's the case the Big 12 would jump on Stanford and Cal right away instead of waiting since those two bring more to the table.

Ummm. how can you rebuild the PAC 12 without G5's being your ONLY option ....... ?

After many re-reads, I think it's - our priority is rebuilding with the other PAC teams and adding versus going to a G5 conference.  But who knows.

That would make sense if that's what they meant ....

I think he means rebuild using G5 schools as backfill vs. a merger with a G5 conference. I had the same question.

EDIT: I see now that you got there.

They have boosters that have said they will fund up to 5 years of no distributions. SMU quite literally has nothing to lose and everything to gain from a move to the ACC.

I think the PAAC should be at least 9 teams next year for only 8 conference games so OOC schedules are not disrupted.  It will be easier for the PAC teams to add one more OOC game vs. the AAC teams having to pay someone off.

Stay with 8 teams and just have each team play a home and home against their new "rival". Stanford v. Cal, Oregon St. v. Washington St., SMU v. Tulane, USF v. Memphis.  (or SMU v. Rice and USF v. Tulane if academics truly matter).

It matters to us but not the salivating executives at Fox and ESPN.
