This is what I don't understand.  If the new model is going to be subscription based in the future, why destroy the sport and wall off the important teams and create more disparity?  Seems like it would yield fewer subscriptions.  If we were in the same sport, I would be subscribing to ESPN+, Ocho, and whatever else.

People only buy subscriptions for their teams.  I wouldn't subscribe to see Indiana vs Rutgers... but I would for USF vs North Texas (if I wasn't already subscribed).  I watched quite a few USF games via ESPN+ last year, not football - but soccer, softball, women's basketball, etc.

Oddly enough, I would watch way more Indiana v Rutgers if it was somehow related to our sport/league.

I'd rather watch a matchup of two middling/bad teams in our own conference than two middling/bad teams from another conference. At least then I'm getting an idea of what we're up against when we play them, whereas a midday matchup between, say, Wake Forest and Duke offers me little.
