I think we should all stop worrying. If anything Boise St has shown the Blueprint for Non P5s to be part of the playoff conversation.  For a non P5 to have a shot at the one of the four playoff spots they would need multiple unbeaten years with wins over ranked P5 teams.  Until Boise St loss to Nevada one year they were pretty much in the conversation for the National Championship. It is a harder road than a P5 but there is still opportunity.

Hard to say honestly. BCS allowed for 8 spots, and had certain limits, and at least had some provisions for allowing non AQs at the time to get in with a certain ranking. This playoff doesn't have those limits, though perhaps they'll be more accessible when they go to 8 teams or more. I agree, to even sniff the playoff, a non P5 would have to have a multi-year campaign of 1 loss or less to really get the clout to stay ranked high, and would also need the backing of a strong schedule, AND help from their own conference being competitive.

Gotta think the big12 is sweating their strategy as far as not having a conf champion. Bama Oregon miss st fsu in Baylor tcu out

Baylor played nobody in OOC, and TCU only beat Kansas by 4 points last week after beating WVU by 1.  There is nobody to blame but themselves especially TCU who was in top 4 before the Kansas game.

That point is being made this year, as Marshall will go 12-0 and isn't even ranked #25 or better. Colorado State has 1 loss and a better schedule and wins (CU and BC) than Marshall, and aren't getting any love, and neither is Boise State, quietly putting together a good season as well and handed Colorado State their only loss so far (a 3 pointer in week 2 I think).

According to Sagarin, Marshall's SOS is 141, worse than 13 FCS teams. So, there's that.

Agree

Also, everyone knows that Marshall's schedule is a joke which is why they are a non-issue, even being unbeaten.

Which is why ECU, even with 1 loss WAS in the top 25.  If they would have been unbeaten, they would have had the best chance of the "G5" schools to make it

...But obviously no way to know for sure
